Comparison of the new Okami robot vacuum cleaners: which one is better?

In October 2019, three new robotic vacuum cleaners from Okami hit the market: U80 Pet, U90 Vision And U100 Laser. All three models are in different price ranges, and each offers its own unique selling points. In this article, we've decided to compare them and offer our opinion on which one is best for your specific needs.
What do the new products have in common?
First, let's define what features are common to all three models; there aren't many of them:
- Suction power has been increased to 2500 Pa. Thanks to the manufacturer installing a modified Nidec motor and positioning it closer to the dust container, suction power has increased. Importantly, this motor is the same one used in Xiaomi robot vacuum cleaners.
- The dust collector capacity is 600 ml, and there is a separate water tank with a capacity of 360 ml.
- All Okami robot vacuum cleaners are fully localized into Russian. Voice guidance, instructions, packaging information, and the mobile app are all translated.
- Electronic regulation of liquid supply to the napkin is provided in three modes.
- The updated central brush, which disassembles for easy cleaning of pet hair and hair, is silicone with nylon bristles. Incidentally, it's very similar to the one installed on the new Xiaomi flagships: Roborock S6 And Vacuum Cleaner 1S.
We've listed the main common features between the models, now let's talk about how they actually differ.
Main differences
For a clear comparison of characteristics and functions, we will collect all the parameters in a table:
| Okami U80 Pet | Okami U90 Vision | Okami U100 Laser | |
| Navigation | gyroscope + SLAM method | HD Camera VSLAM | Lidar |
| Battery | Li-Ion 2600 mAh | Li-Ion 2600 mAh | Li-Ion 3200 mAh |
| Cleaning area | Up to 100 sq.m. | Conditionally unlimited* | Conditionally unlimited* |
| Operating time (min) | 120 | 120 | 150 |
| Virtual wall in the app | Absent | Eat | Eat |
| Continue cleaning after recharging | Absent | Eat | Eat |
| Body height | 76 mm | 76 mm | 100 mm |
| Price | $249 | $319 | $369 ($399 with UV lamp) |
*Unlimited cleaning area—these models have a recharge function. If the vacuum runs out of battery while cleaning, and the cleaning is still in progress, it will recharge at the base and resume where it left off.
We've compared the key features to consider when choosing a robot vacuum cleaner. You're probably still wondering which option is best and whether it's worth the extra money. Let's take it one step at a time.
The first thing to consider is the navigation type. All new Okami robot vacuums can create a room map and display it in the app, but laser rangefinder navigation is the most accurate, and only the Okami U100 Laser has one. Camera-based navigation, however, is only slightly inferior to lidar, so it's sufficient for rooms around 100 square meters. The difference will be in the image detail on your smartphone and the app's functionality.
The next thing to consider is battery capacity and cleaning area (these parameters are closely related). All the robot vacuums reviewed are equipped with a Li-Ion battery, but the Okami U100 Laser has a 3200 mAh battery, while the two "smaller" models have a 2600 mAh battery, although this is generally sufficient for standard cleaning conditions.
Next, it's important to mention a few words about wet cleaning. All three vacuum cleaners feature advanced wet cleaning. Water flows only when moving, and the flow rate can be adjusted in three modes. The Okami U100 Laser features a new Y-pattern motion algorithm, similar to the iRobot Braava and Everybot floor polishers. This motion pattern is more efficient and performed well in tests. Therefore, the most expensive robot performs better in terms of wet cleaning.
Well, the advanced technologies that you have to pay extra for are only available in the Okami U100 Laser, namely:
- The presence of a TOF sensor for more precise cleaning along walls.
- You can customize not only the time and day of cleaning, but also the specific room. The robot divides the room into rooms, allowing you to program cleaning specifically for the kitchen, living room, or bedroom. This feature is currently only found in flagship devices from iRobot, Xiaomi, and several other renowned brands.
- Optionally, a robot vacuum cleaner can be equipped with a UV lamp for surface disinfection. We've repeatedly argued that this feature is more of a marketing ploy, as the robot's cleaning speed prevents the UV lamp from effectively cleaning the floor. However, this time, the manufacturers claim to have conducted specialized laboratory testing, which resulted in the certification.
It is important to note that the Okami U100 Laser model is the tallest due to the presence of a lidar on top, so it will not fit under all furniture, unlike its “brothers”.

What is better to choose?
Considering the comparison of characteristics and functions, the following conclusion can be drawn:
- The Okami U80 Pet model is more suitable for rooms between 60 and 80 square meters and on a budget. If the above-mentioned additional features aren't a priority for you, you can opt for the smaller model.
- The Okami U90 Vision is a strong competitor to camera-equipped robot vacuums. It offers advanced wet cleaning, modern app functionality, and solid performance.
- The flagship Okami U100 Laser makes sense for two-story homes, as the robot vacuum can store multiple cleaning maps. It also features advanced navigation, which is also useful for larger areas. And the new wet cleaning algorithm will be useful for those looking for a multifunctional and high-quality robot vacuum for both dry and wet cleaning.
Overall, each model is worth considering, and given the specifications and functionality, coupled with the availability of warranty support, the price is very attractive for 2019.
