Dyson V8 Absolute: Review and Test, Evaluation by Various Criteria

We reviewed the Dyson V8 Absolute, which costs between $260 and $300. This is quite a price, practically placing it in the premium segment. Let's take a look at the Dyson V8 Absolute's features, its design, and, most importantly, how this cordless vacuum performs on a variety of surfaces. Let's get started.

Equipment

The Dyson V8 lineup comes in several models, the main differences being the included accessories and body color. The Dyson V8 Absolute, in my opinion, is the best choice in terms of the included attachments. Let's take a look at them now.

The set includes:

1. Main block.
2. Extension tube. The color is simply gorgeous; the gold finish adds a touch of sophistication to the vacuum cleaner. The tube itself is lightweight, made of aluminum.
3. A wall-mounted vacuum cleaner bracket. This design allows the vacuum cleaner to be charged while hanging, after securing the power adapter connector to the bracket.
4. Power adapter for charging from the mains. Cord length: 1.8 m.
5. The main brush has a wide bristle roller. This attachment is recommended for cleaning wooden flooring, such as laminate and parquet. Its soft bristles gently pick up debris without scratching the floor.
6. The second attachment is virtually identical in appearance, but has a lint brush inside. It's recommended for removing hair and fur from carpets. The brush is designed so that hair and fur barely get tangled and are collected directly into the dust collector.
7. A mini electric brush for tough tasks, such as removing pet hair from furniture and picking up debris in tight, hard-to-reach areas where the main brush head would be difficult to use. This mini brush head contains a nylon bristle electric brush.
8. Crevice tool. It's best used for picking up debris in the crevices between sofa sections, as well as for cleaning cars.
9. A brush for cleaning upholstery and car interiors. The wide suction opening and soft bristles effectively remove debris from soft surfaces.

Appearance

The main unit looks stylish, and from the first moment you use it, you immediately understand what a premium handheld vacuum cleaner is. The plastic is very high-quality, with no looseness or gaps of varying widths. The fine filter is located at the end and is removed by unscrewing it counterclockwise. The ventilation holes are directed sideways, preventing air from blowing onto your hand, as was previously the case. Incidentally, this was a source of complaint from users. It seems the manufacturers have heeded their advice.

Incidentally, to make reinstalling the filter easier, the manufacturer has marked the housing with dots; these should be aligned. Above, under the logo, you'll see the vacuum cleaner's power slider. There are two modes: normal and maximum.

The handle features a trigger-style power button. When pressed, a blue LED lights up, indicating the battery level. Indicators are duplicated on both sides. Surprisingly, there's no locking mechanism for the button when it's on, but the button itself is soft, so it doesn't tire your finger too much during extended use.

Now let's demonstrate one of the key features of Dyson handheld vacuum cleaners—the dust bin emptying system. To minimize the user's exposure to debris in the bin, engineers developed the following mechanism. Simply pull the handle at the top, and the dust bin lid at the bottom will automatically open. The main unit pulls upward, so any debris accumulated on the filtration system is scraped off and released through the open lid. This is undoubtedly very, very convenient.

The charger port is located on the back of the handle. Also noteworthy on top is the pre-motor filter, with a blue cover. This filter can also be removed for cleaning or replacement. The vacuum cleaner features a five-stage filtration system.

I'll also show you how to disassemble the brushes for maintenance and cleaning them from hair and pet hair. For this purpose, the manufacturer has provided special holes on the side that can be turned using any suitable object. In our case, that's a five-ruble coin.

In principle, it's not difficult. But what if you don't have a coin at hand? It would be better to implement a simpler system for disassembling the attachments.

Technical specifications

Let's move on to an overview of the Dyson V8 Absolute's characteristics. Among the main ones, I would like to highlight:

• NCA (cobalt-aluminum) battery with a capacity of 2800 mAh.
• Suction power up to 115 AW in Turbo mode.
• Operating time up to 40 minutes (in maximum mode operating time up to 7 minutes).
• Charging time up to 300 min.
• The volume of the waste container is 540 ml.
• Noise level up to 82 dB.
• Dimensions 1243 x 210 x 250 mm.
• Weight 2.63 kg.

Testing

Test #1 - Noise Level

First, we measure the noise level during operation. For this, we use a specialized app on a smartphone.

In standard mode, the noise level does not exceed 82 dB, as stated by the manufacturer. However, in maximum mode, the noise level reaches 87 dB.

Test #2 - Cleaning Quality

And the most important thing I'd like to show you is how the Dyson V8 Absolute handles debris removal. In our video review, we demonstrated cleaning performance on various surfaces and with different attachments. We highly recommend watching:

Overall, the Dyson V8 is a cordless vacuum cleaner that's truly user-friendly. It offers excellent cleaning performance, with power comparable to bulky corded vacuums, and the brushes are designed to prevent hair and fur from tangling around the roller or bristle roller. If it does, it's minimal.

I'd especially like to commend the engineers for their careful weight distribution within the main unit. My hand doesn't get tired during extended use. There are a couple of ergonomic concerns, which I'll address at the end of my review. Overall, the Dyson V8 was a pleasant surprise and demonstrated how a cordless upright vacuum should handle dirt.

By the way, Dyson has a special motor protection feature. Suction immediately shuts off if the suction port is blocked. This protection system prevents the motor from failing under overload; I haven't encountered this in other vacuum cleaners yet. Unfortunately, because of this protection, I couldn't demonstrate what the vacuum cleaner can lift with the maximum setting enabled. I imagine it would be able to handle a kilogram bag of cereal without any problem.

Let's sum it up

We've reviewed and thoroughly tested the Dyson V8 Absolute. Now let's evaluate this handheld vacuum cleaner based on various criteria.

Ergonomics: 8 out of 10. The vacuum cleaner is easy to use, and the cleaning system and component connections are thoughtfully designed. However, the lack of a locking power button means you have to hold it down for the entire cleaning process. The manufacturer claims this is to conserve battery life. Furthermore, the battery gets hot after just two minutes of use. Temperatures can reach 55 degrees Celsius, which isn't very comfortable for your hand. So, this particular model has some shortcomings. However, it's important to understand that these have been addressed and fixed in the older V10 and V11 models.

Cleaning quality 10 out of 10. There are no complaints here. The vacuum cleaner does its job perfectly, leaving no debris behind, and hair and fur practically don't get tangled in the brushes. Overall, the cleaning quality is high.

Reliability 10 out of 10. The vacuum cleaner comes with a 2-year warranty, and the build quality is high-quality, with no play. Furthermore, the manufacturer includes all the necessary attachments with the Dyson V8. So, you can be assured of top-notch manufacturer support and build quality.

Total 28 out of 30 points

This handheld vacuum cleaner is excellent for the price. Most importantly, it easily picks up pet hair, even from carpets. So, those who appreciate reliable technology will definitely appreciate the Dyson V8 Absolute.
