Scarlett, a well-known home appliance manufacturer in Russia and the CIS, introduced the new SC-MR83B99 in 2017. It's a robotic vacuum cleaner capable of both dry mopping and wet cleaning hard floors. It's more accurately described as a "robot mop," as it doesn't have a vacuum function or a dust collector like a regular vacuum cleaner. Our review will take a closer look at the Scarlett SC-MR83B99 floor cleaning robot.

Equipment

The Scarlett robot's delivery kit contains only the most necessary components for its work:

  1. The floor polisher itself has a battery.
  2. AC/DC power adapter.
  3. Water filling tank.
  4. Two microfiber cloths: blue for dry wiping and white for damp wiping the floor.
  5. Instructions for use.

Appearance

The SC-MR83B99 Black model has a very unique design. It's even considered one of the most unique among robotic cleaning assistants. The base is made of durable plastic, designed for long-term use and requiring little maintenance. The standard color is black. The robot has no sharp corners, and its movements are smooth and jerk-free, preventing collisions with surrounding objects and potential scratches.

When reviewing the robot, we see that the central part of the body, containing the control button, is framed by a flat, transparent, round container for wet cleaning, equipped with a special filling cap and two wicks for wetting a white cloth. This part also contains a socket for connecting the power adapter.

Looking at the floor polisher from the bottom, we see durable large rubberized wheels, as well as small smooth wheels for better grip on smooth, soft-surfaced floors, three pairs of fall protection sensors, and a battery compartment. One of two cloths is attached to the bottom of the fluid reservoir using special Velcro.

Functional capabilities

Let's take a closer look at how the device is controlled using a single control button with an indicator light, which turns it on and off. To start the robot, press the button twice and wait a few seconds, after which the Scarlett SC-MR83B99 will begin cleaning. To turn the device off, hold the button for a couple of seconds, as pressing the button quickly will activate pause mode. The indicator light works as follows: the indicator light remains on continuously when the robot vacuum cleaner's battery is low and needs to be recharged. The indicator light flashes while the robot vacuum is charging.

How does a robot vacuum cleaner work? We mentioned above that the robot comes with two cloths, each with a different purpose: the blue cloth is better at capturing dirt and dust, collecting it on its surface. The white cloth, for wet cleaning, can dislodge debris, so it's recommended to use it for wiping the floor after sweeping the entire area.

To clean the floor, the cleaning cloth is attached to the base of the device using secure Velcro fasteners. The reservoir is filled with water, and a special detergent can be added. Liquid is released onto the cleaning cloth in small amounts through two holes with cloth wicks. The user manual prohibits the Scarlett SC-MR83B99 from picking up liquid from the floor or wiping up puddles. However, the robot vacuum cleaner itself does not leave puddles after use, as the liquid from the reservoir is used very sparingly, and the cleaning cloth is damp, but not wet.

Dry mopping is performed when the tank is empty. When the robot vacuum cleaner is lifted from the floor, it stops cleaning due to the activation of built-in safety sensors.

The device moves in the following sequence: forward, turn, backward, turn, and then forward slightly. This movement is more like a slow dance with multiple twists and turns. Scarlett's movement algorithm appears chaotic, but this allows the robot vacuum to travel long distances on its own.

The SC-MR83B99 model has six built-in sensors that protect the robot vacuum cleaner from falling from elevated surfaces when there is a difference in height.

Operating instructions

A paper user manual for the Scarlett SC-MR83B99 is included with the robot vacuum cleaner and is available in 10 languages, including Russian. It covers device descriptions, safety precautions, battery charging, preparation, operation, cleaning, maintenance, and storage, as well as troubleshooting tips.
