In 2019, Ecovacs announced the release of three new robots: the DE55, Ozmo 902, and N79S. Today, we're reviewing the top-of-the-line Ecovacs Deebot OZMO 902 robot vacuum cleaner, featuring a floor mopping system, automatic suction boost on carpets, and state-of-the-art Smart Navi 3.0 navigation technology. This robot is designed to clean all types of flooring, including tile, wood, linoleum, carpet, and rugs. This review describes the design and components of the robot vacuum cleaner, its performance parameters, and how the Ecovacs Deebot OZMO 902 cleans. Let's dive right in.

The robot vacuum cleaner does not include a remote control or a motion limiter. However, this isn't a major issue, as all controls are handled via a smartphone app. Specifically, the app allows you to protect the robot and valuables from damage by limiting its working area. The package itself is sparse, and there are no spare parts.

Appearance

The Ecovacs Deebot OZMO 902's body is made of durable, high-quality plastic, making it scratch- and damage-resistant. The robot vacuum cleaner is round and white. The front of the device reveals a single start button, a status indicator, and a protruding "washer"—the lidar sensor. This sensor is responsible for scanning the surrounding space, plotting a route, and creating a 3D map of rooms thanks to the built-in Smart Navi 3.0 system.

The back of the Ecovacs Deebot OZMO 902 features side drive wheels, a universal front roller wheel, a pair of side brushes, charging contacts on the base, a battery compartment, and a power button. The user can choose between a turbo brush or a suction element. A damp mop pad on a special tray is also attached to the bottom of the robot.

The Ecovacs Deebot OZMO 902 is equipped with a 2600 mAh lithium-ion battery. A full charge provides 90 minutes of battery life. Charging takes approximately four hours. When cleaning surfaces, the device produces approximately 67 dB of noise. This is significantly quieter than a standard vacuum cleaner, but not the quietest among automated robotic cleaners.

The dust collector is a standard cyclone filter (bagless), with a container capacity of 450 milliliters.

Functional capabilities

The robot vacuum cleaner cleans rooms in three stages: it sweeps, mops, and vacuums simultaneously in a single cycle. This process is accomplished using two side brushes, a V-shaped central turbo brush, or a replaceable suction head. The tangle-free brush is ideal for removing hair and pet hair from floors without clogging or tangling, while the main brush provides a more thorough and effective cleaning of carpets.

The following operating modes are available to users:

  • auto;
  • intensive;
  • individual.

Once the cleaning cycle is complete, the Ecovacs Deebot OZMO 902 robot automatically returns to the docking station to recharge.

The robot vacuum cleaner uses resistance-sensing technology, which automatically increases suction power when cleaning carpets and rugs. And with the timer function, you can schedule cleaning sessions in advance, setting a regular cleaning time.

You can also attach a pre-moistened microfiber cloth to the bottom of the Ecovacs Deebot OZMO 902. This allows the Ecovacs Deebot OZMO 902 to not only vacuum but also mop floors. Wet cleaning isn't a complete cleaning option; it's more of an optional extra.

The robot vacuum cleaner is controlled and configured via the Ecovacs Home mobile app. Here, you can change the operating mode, set a schedule, define the cleaning area, and much more. Custom mode allows you to map a rectangular area in the app and direct the robot to this defined area.

The innovative Smart Navi 3.0 room mapping and navigation technology enables the Ecovacs Deebot OZMO 902 to navigate intelligently. By mapping, the robot automatically divides the space into several optimal zones, selecting the dirtiest ones first, prioritizing them, and focusing on thorough cleaning.

Advantages and disadvantages

To summarize, let us highlight the advantages of the model under consideration:

  1. Good cross-country ability.
  2. Adjustable suction power.
  3. Setting up a schedule.
  4. Improved navigation Smart Navi 3.0.
  5. Construction of a 3D map.
  6. Several modes + wet wiping.
  7. Control from a smartphone.

There are no downsides as such. Considering the price tag of just over $300, the robot meets all standard requirements: good navigation, smartphone control, and high-quality cleaning. However, there are a few minor concerns:

  1. Poor equipment.
  2. Primitive wet cleaning.
  3. Low suction power.

Overall, the robot vacuum is good and worth considering, especially since it's currently on sale on Tmall for just $220 (link below). At that price, the only competitor is Roborock S50, and even then it costs a little more.

    But what about the need to mention that during wet cleaning, water is supplied not through holes by gravity, but by a pump, which allows you to start wet cleaning and leave the vacuum cleaner with water without fear?

    The phrase "It is also possible to attach a microfiber cloth, pre-moistened with water, to the bottom." is completely untrue: my vacuum cleaner is stored in a heated floor area, and when cleaning starts, wet cleaning begins after just a few meters (the pump moistens the cloth very quickly).

    The phrase "The robot vacuum cleaner doesn't come with a remote control or a motion limiter. But this can't be considered critical" isn't critical at all, since you can set up at least 10 virtual walls and cleaning zone restrictions in the app (don't go into that room, and don't clean the carpet with Legos scattered on it). Can you imagine such functionality in robots with traditional virtual walls? Yet, based on the test, you present this as a drawback...

    In short, your review can only be read if you've actually used this robot. Otherwise, it's impossible to discern what's a drawback and what's a benefit.

    And finally, a question for you: What's the difference between the DE55 and the Ozmo 902? Judging from the review, you didn't really highlight all the advantages of the Ozmo 902 (except for the battery type).
