ECOVACS DEEBOT Y1 Pro: BUDGET price, 6500 Pa, carpet recognition

Hello to all readers of this project! This review will focus on the ECOVACS DEEBOT Y1 Pro robot vacuum cleaner. Its price at the time of writing is between $160 and $230. For this price, you get a robot vacuum with 6500 Pa of suction power, dry and wet cleaning functions, control via a proprietary mobile app, and carpet recognition. Next, I'll examine how everything works, demonstrate the ECOVACS DEEBOT Y1 Pro's design, and test it. I'll then highlight the pros and cons based on my test results. So, let's get started!

Equipment

The robot vacuum cleaner arrived in a branded box like this:

In addition to the robot itself, the delivery kit includes:

1. Charging base with power adapter.
2. Nozzle for wet cleaning with a cloth.
3. Side brush installation tool.
4. Documentation for the robot.

Appearance

Let's take a look at the ECOVACS DEEBOT Y1 Pro's design. It's round and comes in white and black. There's no external wall sensor. The height is stated as 101 mm, although it's actually just under 10 cm.

A lidar sensor is responsible for navigation. It is equipped with a spring-loaded cover to prevent it from getting stuck under furniture. Three mechanical control buttons and a WiFi connection status indicator are located next to the lidar sensor. The combined water and dust container is removable from the rear. The dust container has a capacity of 400 ml. The water tank capacity is stated at 420 ml. The filtration system consists of a HEPA filter, foam, and mesh.

A holder with a napkin is attached to the bottom of the tank and is held in place by Velcro.

The robot has four anti-fall sensors installed on the bottom. It also has a carpet sensor, which is good for this price range. It has a single, three-beam side brush, secured with a screw.

The central brush unit doesn't float. Only part of the frame moves. The turbo brush is made of bristles and petals. It doesn't disassemble at the sides to remove tangled hair and fur, which is not ideal.

For its price segment, the robot's design is quite standard and optimal. The pros and cons will be discussed in the final review.

The main characteristics of the ECOVACS DEEBOT Y1 Pro, as stated by the manufacturer:

What stands out here is the increased suction power, which will be verified in tests, and the capacious water tank.

Functional capabilities

Speaking of features, the robot vacuum cleaner is controlled via the proprietary Ecovacs Home app. Connection is simple and convenient. The app interface is in Russian. However, there is currently no Russian voiceover.

The main functions are displayed on the screen:

• Saving multiple cleaning maps in memory.
• Automatic zoning of premises into rooms.
• Selecting areas and rooms for cleaning.
• Virtual walls and no-go zones.
• Suction power adjustment.
• Adjusting the degree of wetting of the napkin.
• Cleaning log.
• Setting up cleaning according to a schedule.
• Continue cleaning after charging.
• Automatic power increase on carpet.
• Yandex.Alice support.

Personally, I'd miss a custom mode so I could flexibly adjust cleaning parameters for each room. Otherwise, all the basic features for a $200 price point are included.

Navigation

And finally, let's move on to the tests. First, we'll test navigation in a room with obstacles. The robot first navigates the perimeter of the selected area. It gets stuck on a clothes dryer and can't get out. After a few minutes of sliding around, it goes into an error state. I've had to restart it several times. We remove the dryer and see how things go. After traversing the perimeter, the ECOVACS DEEBOT Y1 Pro begins cleaning the entire accessible area in a serpentine pattern. It sweeps around the box and the chrome legs of the chair separately, then returns to the base. So, the main problem for it is the legs of the clothes dryer.

Regarding house navigation, the robot cleans room by room, following the perimeter, then in a serpentine pattern. There were no uncleaned areas, and the cleaning speed was high, so this test was passed.

Passing under low furniture

And here's what I was talking about regarding the height. The robot vacuum cleaner can even pass through a 10 cm gap, so in reality, it's just under 10 cm.

Suction power

Regarding suction power, in Quiet mode, the ECOVACS DEEBOT Y1 Pro was able to partially clean debris from a 2 mm gap. In Standard mode, it cleaned deeper. I didn't notice any difference in Medium and Maximum modes, so the robot vacuum is only capable of cleaning debris from a 2 mm gap. This is likely due to the non-floating central brush unit. Consequently, the brush doesn't lie flat against the floor, and any power, if any, is lost.

Dry cleaning

Cleaning performance on laminate floors is on par with similar products—it removed almost all debris, with the exception of small remnants in corners that are difficult for round robots to reach. The center brush picked up some hair and lint, passing the test.

Carpet cleaning

As for carpet cleaning, a robot vacuum cleaner can clean low-pile carpet. However, it can't clean medium-pile carpet. This is due to the non-floating brush head and power loss.

Wet cleaning and carpets

When wet cleaning carpets, the robot vacuum cleaner carefully navigates around them, as it automatically detects them with its carpet sensor. This is a plus. To access carpets, remove the holder with the cleaning cloth.

Wet cleaning

The ECOVACS DEEBOT Y1 Pro's wet cleaning performance is quite acceptable for its price. The robot handles light dirt. The water flow is generous in maximum mode. Like most other robots, there's a blind spot between the edge of the cloth and the baseboard, measuring approximately 6 cm.

In a domestic environment, the cloth can collect dust and debris that the turbo brush might miss, thereby improving cleaning performance.

Obstacle clearance

The 2 cm high threshold allows the robot vacuum cleaner to move with the wet cleaning attachment installed.

Driving on black surfaces

However, the ECOVACS DEEBOT Y1 Pro is sensitive to black mats due to differences in height. This is also worth considering.

Noise level

Finally, we measured the robot's noise level. It ranged from 58 to 71.5 dB, depending on the selected power level. The noise level was slightly elevated at maximum power, given that the suction power wasn't as strong as expected.

Personal opinion

The ECOVACS DEEBOT Y1 Pro robot vacuum cleaner has been thoroughly reviewed and tested. our evaluation system he managed to gain 107 points, which is quite normal for the $200 price segment.

I will highlight the pros and cons that I discovered during a detailed examination, after which I will share my own opinion about it.

I liked the following:

1. High-quality dry and wet cleaning on hard surfaces.
2. Large capacity water tank.
3. Carpet detection feature allows the robot to automatically increase suction power on carpets and avoid them during wet cleaning.
4. Convenient branded application.
5. Yandex.Alice support.
6. Availability of warranty and service.
7. Optimal price for a lidar robot from a popular, reputable brand.

Among the disadvantages I would highlight:

1. The turbo brush cannot be disassembled for cleaning hair and fur.
2. The claimed suction power was not confirmed in tests.
3. There are problems with cleaning medium pile carpets.
4. At the time of writing, voice notifications were not translated into Russian.
5. There is no custom mode in the settings.
6. Gets stuck on the dryer legs.
7. Afraid of black carpets.

Overall, most of the criticisms apply to the sub-$200 price range, although the model does have its own unique drawbacks. In any case, I would recommend this robot vacuum primarily for cleaning hard floors or low-pile carpets. In these conditions, it can clean efficiently and keep your home clean.
