Dreame T20: An upright vacuum cleaner that vacuums carpets well and recognizes them

We reviewed the highly popular Dreame T20 upright vacuum cleaner. Its main attraction was its smart brush head, which automatically increases suction power to maximum when it detects carpet. The vacuum also boasts a removable battery, an LED display, and impressive suction power, reaching 25,000 Pa. All this for under $200. The price at the time of writing was based on the price offered by the Xiaomi store, which provided the vacuum for review. Speaking of Xiaomi, it's worth noting that they offer good prices on the entire Xiaomi range, are among the first to release new products in Russia, and offer a warranty on all products and deliver throughout Russia. Incidentally, by adding a comment to "robovac.washerhouse.com," you can receive a discount of up to 10% on the entire product range. So, below we'll take a detailed look at and test the Dreame T20, and then share our personal opinion on whether this cordless vacuum is worth buying. We'd be grateful if you'd appreciate our efforts by subscribing and liking after watching the video. So, let's get started!
Equipment
The Dreame T20 arrived in this branded box:
It contains compactly packaged:
- Main unit with battery installed.
- Metal extension tube.
- Basic floor nozzle.
- Wall mounting bracket with fasteners.
- Motorized brush for cleaning mattresses and upholstered furniture.
- Power adapter.
- Flexible hose.
- Flat brush with soft bristles.
- Crevice nozzle.
- Operating instructions, including translation into Russian.
The kit is quite complete. The only things missing are a replaceable brush for cleaning hard floors (a fluffy roller) and a replaceable HEPA filter. But these aren't critical.
Appearance
Let's take a look at the Dreame T20's design. Here's what it looks like fully assembled:
First, let's show you what the main unit looks like and how it's designed. The Dream logo is located on the top of the unit. On the end is an informative LED display with a power mode switch and a continuous cleaning button. This mode eliminates the need to constantly hold your finger on the trigger while cleaning, which is a plus.
The battery is removable, and the dust bin is emptied with the press of a button, with debris falling out the bottom. The flask with the filtration system can be detached from the main unit by pressing a button on the bottom. Please note that the main unit contains an additional HEPA filter. It can be washed with water, as stated in the instructions. The flask contains a pre-filter and the cyclone itself, which is removed by twisting and pulling.
The container itself has a maximum dust level mark, indicating when the dust container should be emptied. Incidentally, the container holds up to 600 ml of dry waste.
Now let's look at the attachments included in the kit.
Let's start with the main brush. It's equipped with a mechanical lock for attaching to the tube. The front is made of transparent plastic, allowing you to visually assess the brush's condition during use. The brush's design reduces the chance of hair and pet hair getting tangled. A strip of dense bristles is visible in front of the suction opening. This helps better collect pet hair and pet hair from the floor. A locking mechanism is located on the side; by turning it, you can remove the brush for cleaning. Reassembly is done in reverse order.
The mattress brush also has a mechanical latch for attaching to the vacuum cleaner or the vacuum cleaner tube. However, removing the brush is less convenient. A flat-head screwdriver or coin is required for this. The brush itself has long, dense bristles.
This setup allows you to vacuum mattresses and upholstered furniture, such as sofa upholstery, using the Dreame T20:
Here's what the vacuum cleaner looks like assembled with the other two attachments, which can also be used:
Next, we'll look at the wall mount bracket for the vacuum cleaner. There's a power adapter connector on the side, and clamps on the front.
This eliminates the need to constantly manually charge the vacuum cleaner by connecting the cord directly to the main unit. Simply attach the bracket to the wall and connect the power supply. Then, simply hang the vacuum cleaner on the bracket, and charging occurs automatically.
Overall, I was pleased with the build quality and design of the Dreame T20. I especially liked the charging cradle and removable battery.
Technical specifications
The main characteristics of the Dreame T20, as stated by the manufacturer:
- Power consumption 450 W.
- Suction power up to 150 AW (25000 Pa).
- Li-Ion battery 3000 mAh.
- Dust collector capacity is 600 ml.
- Operating time up to 70 minutes in minimum power mode.
- Noise level up to 75 dB.
We also measured the weight of this vacuum cleaner. The main unit weighs 1,716 grams, the floor brush 808 grams, and the extension tube 298 grams.
Accordingly, the fully assembled Dreame T20 weighs 2 kg 822 grams. It's slightly heavier than similar products on the market. On average, similar handheld vacuum cleaners weigh around 2.5 kg. However, it's worth noting that using the vacuum cleaner is comfortable. The weight is well distributed, and your hand won't tire.
Functional capabilities
Before testing, I'd like to tell you about two useful features of the Dreame T20. The first is the automatic power increase when the nozzle hits carpet. This is a really convenient feature that helps conserve battery power by eliminating the need to manually switch from medium to maximum power. It also helps the power button last longer.
The second is automatic suction shutoff if the suction channel becomes blocked. For example, if the vacuum cleaner gets stuck on a sock, a curtain, or some other object. Here's what it looks like:
Testing
We recommend watching a detailed video review and test of the Dreame T20 in our video, which has already been prepared and published on the channel:
Opening hours
Let's move on to the tests. First, let's check the Dreame T20's battery life in maximum power mode. The vacuum cleaner managed to run for 10.5 minutes at maximum power. Moreover, when the battery charge dropped below 15%, the speed dropped slightly. The runtime is standard for cordless vacuum cleaners.
Suction power
Now let's test the Dreame T20's suction depth. It effectively removed debris from crevices up to 8 mm deep and almost completely cleaned a 10 mm crevice. It's a powerful vacuum cleaner. It passed this test with flying colors!
Quality of cleaning
Now let's test how well the Dreame T20 picks up debris from different surfaces. On laminate flooring, we scattered small debris such as cat litter, cat food, fur, hair, and ground coffee to simulate dust. Overall, the vacuum cleaner performed well.
The only problem is picking up large debris; the brush flat against the floor refuses to pick it up. However, if you lift it slightly, the brush picks up the debris.
But look at the condition of the central brush after the test:
You can see that there's a little hair tangled up, but it's only a small amount, and the brush will be easy to clean. For comparison, here's the condition of the mattress pad after picking up the same debris:
As you can see, it's quite heavily tangled with hair. So, the main brush is indeed more intelligently designed without compromising debris collection.
And the same debris was scattered on the carpet. The main attachment cleans carpets very well, literally brushing the carpet. The Dreame T20 is definitely a big plus here.
Noise level
It's also worth checking the noise level of the cordless vacuum cleaner in question. In Eco mode, the noise level is around 67-68 dB, at medium power it reaches 71 dB, and at maximum power, the peak was 78 dB. Overall, the Dreame T20 isn't overly noisy. The noise level is quite standard.
Additional features
As for the other attachments, you can use them to vacuum the joints between upholstered furniture, shelves, windowsills, and even the inside of a car. Experiment with the attachments and connecting tubes to get the hang of it.
Emptying the dust container
Finally, I'll show you how to empty the waste container. With a gentle press of a button, all the waste falls out through the open lid at the bottom. This completely eliminates any contact between your hands and the waste. That's a plus.
Let's sum it up
The Dreame T20 was thoroughly reviewed and tested. This cordless vacuum cleaner left a very good impression. It truly deserves to be considered one of the best for cleaning carpets thanks to its smart, well-designed main brush and strong suction power.
Here are the advantages I would like to highlight after getting to know the vacuum cleaner in detail:
- Charging on the bracket.
- Removable battery.
- Informative display on the body.
- Automatic power increase on carpet.
- Good quality of waste collection, especially on carpets.
- High quality assembly.
- Ergonomic design.
- Optimal price.
As for shortcomings, no particular ones were identified. The only comments that can be made are:
- Not too long operating time at maximum power.
- Lack of replaceable lint roller for cleaning on hard surfaces.
But these shortcomings aren't so significant when weighed against the advantages. Ultimately, the Dreame T20 is one of the best cordless vacuum cleaners in the Xiaomi family, and if you're looking for an upright vacuum cleaner for carpet cleaning, this model is a very attractive purchase.
On this note, I'd like to conclude this review. Thanks again to Xiaomistore for providing this opportunity to test out such a popular vacuum cleaner. If you have any questions, please ask them in the comments. Happy shopping, everyone!

The main feature is that the barrel can be removed and washed normally, unlike the V11. And since you can't shake out your hair with the button, the idea of keeping your hands clean is a failure.
