Greetings to all readers of the site robovac.washerhouse.comWe received the new Viomi A9 handheld vacuum cleaner (a Xiaomi sub-brand) for testing, courtesy of Lamobile. This is the first upright vacuum cleaner in the manufacturer's lineup, and looking ahead, it's a rather interesting and competitive device. The current price at the time of writing is $120. This is inexpensive and even considered a budget-friendly vacuum cleaner. Next, we'll unbox the Viomi A9, examine the included accessories, its design, and, most importantly, how it performs. Let's get started!

Equipment and appearance

The vacuum cleaner comes in a cardboard box. It features an image of the Viomi A9 itself and brief manufacturer information.

Let's take a closer look at the two main brushes and the central unit. The smaller attachment is equipped with a bristled electric brush. It's best used for cleaning carpets and furniture. The connection point includes terminals for powering the electric brush and a mechanical locking mechanism.

The main nozzle is significantly wider. It features LED lighting and a fluffy roller, which is best used for cleaning hard floors.

In addition, the wide nozzle is equipped with a swivel joint, increasing the vacuum cleaner's maneuverability. The top of the brush area is made of transparent plastic, allowing for visual inspection of the brush's condition.

Removing the roller for cleaning is also important to consider. The manufacturer has provided a rotating lock on the side for this purpose. A five-ruble coin can be used to turn the mechanism. After turning the lock to the "open" position, the roller itself must be removed from the top. Overall, the procedure is not complicated, but I think they've overdone it a bit; other manufacturers offer simpler solutions.

The smaller attachment contains a lint-free electric brush and is removed in a similar manner.

The main unit is made of fairly high-quality plastic. It's dark gray, but the buttons and locking tabs are light gray, making them easier to spot and navigate.

The battery is removable and can be replaced if needed. The power button is conveniently located on the end of the unit, just under your thumb. On the top of the unit, you'll find a power mode switch and a battery charge indicator. There are three suction power settings.

The dust container is emptied by pressing a button. This is a common design for handheld vacuum cleaners.

You can also open the dust container by turning the flask counterclockwise. I found this option more convenient. The filtration system can also be removed by turning it counterclockwise.

A H12 class HEPA filter is located at the bottom of the handle.

Overall, the vacuum cleaner appears to be of fairly high quality. Considering the price, there are no complaints about the design. There are some minor gaps where the parts fit together, but they're minimal. The only missing accessory is a bristle-and-petal roller for the main nozzle. It's better for cleaning carpets. I couldn't find a replacement turbo brush for sale. I hope it becomes available soon.

Technical specifications

The main characteristics of the Xiaomi Viomi A9, as stated by the manufacturer:

  1. Li-Ion battery with a capacity of 2500 mAh.
  2. Power consumption 120 W.
  3. Suction power up to 23 kPa.
  4. Dust collector capacity: 0.4 liters.
  5. Weight 1.5 kg.
  6. Noise level up to 83 dB.
  7. Charging time is 3.5 hours.
  8. Runtime up to 60 minutes. This likely refers to battery life at minimum suction power, without the electric brush, which consumes additional power. We tested the runtime in our video review for the full setup and Turbo mode, and it was just over 8 minutes.

Video review and test

We thoroughly tested the Viomi A9 in real-world conditions. We checked its suction power, noise level, dust collection performance, and battery life. Watch all the tests in the video review:

Let's sum it up

We've finally reviewed the new Viomi A9 handheld vacuum cleaner. Based on our in-depth review, we'll evaluate it based on various criteria, considering its low price.

Ergonomics 8 out of 10. The plastic is high-quality and includes all the necessary attachments. The only points we're deducting are the lack of a replaceable central brush for the main nozzle and the slightly awkward placement of the mode switch, requiring the use of your other hand. Otherwise, the vacuum cleaner is lightweight and maneuverable, and it has a light in front of the brush and a battery status indicator. Everything you need for convenient operation.

Cleaning quality 9 out of 10. Thanks to its high power and well-designed brushes, the vacuum cleaner handles both carpet and hard floors well. It would be nice to increase the battery life in the maximum mode, as in difficult conditions, you won't be able to clean an entire apartment in one go, let alone a large house. The power itself is sufficient for deep cleaning of carpets and furniture, which is a plus.

Reliability and build quality 9 out of 10. We are already familiar with the products of the Viomi company, we have tested some of their robot vacuum cleaners, including the flagship Viomi V3From experience, we can say that the manufacturer produces products of significantly above-average quality, despite being a Chinese brand. There are some minor issues with play, but remember, the price is budget-friendly, so for the price, everything is more than good.

Total: 26 out of 30 points

Overall, we liked the vacuum cleaner and have no major complaints, so we confidently recommend it for purchases under $100. That concludes our review. We'd also love to hear your thoughts on the Viomi A9 in the comments. Happy shopping, everyone!

Why couldn't you have mentioned that the wide electric nozzle is the same as the electric brush with bristles? The review is mediocre.
