Appearance

The Wolkinz Cosmo robot vacuum cleaner was developed by German engineers, and its design is truly space-age. The first thing you notice is the laser radar, mounted in the center of the top of the body. It navigates the robot and maps the room. The body itself is made of durable plastic, with a glossy black top. Next to the radar, you'll find the Wolkinz logo, an indicator light, and the robot vacuum's only control button.

The front, like most household robots, features a movable bumper (shock sensors) and ultrasonic sensors. The rear houses the charging contacts, support brackets, and ventilation holes.

If you turn the robot vacuum upside down, you'll see two side brushes, an on/off button, drive wheels, an auxiliary wheel, a swivel wheel, and height sensors. The suction port, which enables dry cleaning, is also located there. Please note that the Wolkinz Cosmo's dust bin is located at the bottom, unlike most robots (the lid usually opens from the top). This location is more convenient, as removing it for emptying prevents debris from spilling onto the floor.

Functional capabilities

Let's begin our feature description by examining the Wolkinz Cosmo's cleaning principle. The robot vacuum cleaner is equipped with two side brushes that collect small debris and direct it into the suction port. Testing showed that the robot is capable of picking up small debris, as well as pet hair and fur. The side brushes are effective at picking up debris along baseboards and in corners, and the rectangular shape of the robot's front section also helps ensure thorough cleaning of corners. The manufacturer provides a wet cleaning function; to do this, simply place the cleaning unit with a cloth on the bottom. Water is easily added to the unit by opening the sealed valve. The capacity is sufficient for one full cleaning cycle.

When it comes to navigation, the engineers certainly did a great job. The robot vacuum cleaner is equipped with a military-grade laser radar, also known as lidar. This technology allows the Wolkinz Cosmo to map the room and automatically select the optimal navigation algorithm. The entire route is displayed in real time in the dedicated WZ COSMO app (using MapVision technology), allowing you to see where the robot vacuum cleaner has and hasn't cleaned yet. When the battery runs low, the device automatically returns to its base, recharges, and then resumes cleaning from where it left off.

It's worth noting that the Wolkinz Cosmo is equipped with a high-power inverter motor, backed by a lifetime manufacturer warranty. As noted in the specifications, the suction power is 1600 Pa, which is quite high; the average suction power of robotic vacuum cleaners ranges from 800-1000 Pa.

The mobile app deserves special attention. It's available for Android and iOS. You can download it from the manufacturer's website or from an app store. The robot vacuum is controlled via the mobile app, which requires syncing with the Wolkinz Cosmo via Wi-Fi. The app is simple and intuitive, despite being in English. The app's features are standard, but sufficient: you can program a cleaning schedule, track the robot vacuum's route, switch modes (increase or decrease suction power), and return the robot vacuum to its base.

The Wolkinz Cosmo's quiet operation allows you to go about your daily business while the robot vacuum cleans. The device is equipped with a notification system and an indicator that displays the robot's status and alerts you to any errors. It also includes a magnetic strip, allowing you to restrict the robot's cleaning area. For example, it's very convenient for preventing the Wolkinz from running over high rugs or protecting pets' food dishes.

To see how this robot vacuum cleaner cleans, we recommend watching a video review of the Wolkinz Cosmo:

Operating instructions

A quick start guide and user manual are included with the robot. The manual clearly explains how to set up the Wolkinz Cosmo, any potential problems that may arise during operation, and how to troubleshoot them yourself.

Advantages and disadvantages

Let's summarize our review and highlight the main advantages and disadvantages of the Wolkinz Cosmo. Among the positive aspects, we would like to highlight:

  1. Stylish and modern appearance.
  2. Good quality of assembly and materials.
  3. Rectangular body shape for thorough cleaning of corners.
  4. The Walkins robot is capable of dry and wet cleaning.
  5. The quality of dry floor cleaning is at a high level.
  6. The kit includes all necessary elements.
  7. Good battery capacity.
  8. Possibility of control from a smartphone.
  9. Navigation is at a high level: there are no problems with finding a base or building a map of the premises.
  10. The robot vacuum cleaner is capable of cleaning large areas of the room.
  11. High suction power.
  12. Capacious dust collector.
  13. The robot vacuum cleaner comes with a 3-year warranty.

There are some disadvantages, but they are not that significant:

  1. There's no remote control included. Although the Wolkinz Cosmo is controlled via phone, a remote control is sometimes necessary.
  2. The glossy surface is quite difficult to maintain, leaving marks when touched.
  3. The robot vacuum cleaner struggles with high-pile carpets. While this is a problem with all robot vacuum cleaners, they are generally better suited for smooth floors.

Overall, the model is quite interesting. Despite its drawbacks, the Wolkinz robot meets all the criteria for premium models. It's worth noting the relatively high price of the device, which in 2018 was $450. However, considering all the functionality, specifications, and build quality of the robot vacuum, it's understandable why it's so expensive. This concludes our review of the Wolkinz Cosmo. I looked at their German website. The lyrics weren't written by Germans (I lived in Germany for a long time, so I'm 100% sure). They're more likely translated from Russian.

Anything is possible! It's like when they sell "supposedly" Japanese Ashimo robot vacuum cleaners, listing a Japanese address and a local phone number, even though no one is registered at that address and the phone number isn't working.

In fact, this is the SRL-100 model from OEM manufacturer 3irobotics, which also makes other lidar models for Xiaomi (Mijia and Viomi), Proscenic, Ecovacs, etc.

In general, Germans are the same as I am Chinese :)) The only thing that is unclear is why people are still falling for "German" and "Japanese" "brands", since the Chinese are now making absolutely everything, and it's not about "their factories are in China, but the developments are Japanese", most of the R&D of household appliances has long been in China and India, in other words, the Japanese and Europeans themselves have not been leaders for a long time.

This space robot with "German" ancestry has a very dubious connection to Germany. I can't comment on the quality of the translation, but the non-existent German address, Russian phone numbers, lack of service centers in Germany, and the occasional Russian text on the "German" website speak for themselves.
I even saw a vacuum cleaner on Aliexpress a while ago that was identical to the Cosmo and had the same description.

Administration, what's the principle behind vacuum cleaner ratings? Are they based on the official presentation? At the very least, there are discrepancies with reality—the battery only lasts 100 minutes, and there are issues with crossing thresholds over 18 mm. I can't say the cleaning performance is poor, assuming ideal conditions—a completely level floor, no rugs, cords, or large piles of tables and chairs, no lightweight cases. But if you add any of these factors, this model immediately begins to reveal its weaknesses. At least, I compared them in two completely different apartments.

Hello! Regarding the German pedigree, we get the information from the dealers' websites and their Russian representative office. They indicated this, so the accuracy of the information in this regard falls on their shoulders. We cannot verify the accuracy of the information provided by each brand, call all the offices, and verify that they actually have offices in China, Japan, the USA, Germany, France, etc.
Regarding the principle of our ratings, what's confusing you? Which rating exactly? In our opinion, this robot vacuum cleaner is truly one of the best released in 2018. It's also one of the best models without a turbo brush and with a wet cleaning function. Regarding the battery, we tested it from full charge to empty, and it lasted 115 minutes, not the stated 120, but errors sometimes depend on many indirect factors. Almost any robot vacuum cleaner can have trouble passing 18 mm thresholds, even if the manufacturer specifies 20 mm. Even 15 mm is already a good threshold clearance indicator. Walkins has a fairly well-designed wheelbase. Regarding operating conditions, the more obstacles there are, the worse the vacuum cleaner will perform. There's no doubt that the Roomba 980 will be smarter, but the Xiaomi will also get tangled up in a large pile of tables, chairs, and even on carpets.

Thanks for your reply! It's nice to know that your site not only evaluates information from "guides" but also conducts real-world tests. This is truly a very important factor.

It looks like I'll have to get used to the Wolkinz now, so I hope it's worth the money I spent on it. 🙂 Fortunately, it handles the tasks well in our specific conditions.

Hello! What can you tell me about the functionality of the smartphone app, and how does it clean fine-pile carpets?

        • Administrator

The app is fairly simple, with only a few features—start/stop, return to base, a cleaning map, and other standard information. It cleans fine-pile carpets well, on par with other models in this price range.

Hello! I recently purchased a Wolkinz COSMO robot vacuum. Now I'm having problems: one of the wheels is having trouble turning, and the vacuum isn't moving as planned, spinning in place. I'd like to know if there are any repair shops in Moscow that specialize in this type of equipment. Thank you!
