Midea VSS1800: An affordable upright vacuum cleaner with a convenient floor stand

This review will examine the affordable Midea VSS1800 upright vacuum cleaner. Its price starts at $75. For this price, the vacuum cleaner features a cleaning zone light, two additional attachments for spot cleaning, and a convenient floor stand for storing the vacuum cleaner and accessories. Below, I'll thoroughly test the Midea VSS1800, highlight its pros and cons, and then share my opinion. Let's get started!
Equipment
Let's start with the package contents. The vacuum cleaner arrived in this branded box:
The package includes:
- Main block.
- Floor stand.
- Extension tube.
- Basic floor nozzle.
- Attachment with sliding bristles.
- Crevice nozzle.
- Operating instructions.
- Power adapter.
The package includes good accessories for this price range. I was pleased to see the included floor stand.
Appearance
Now let's take a look at the Midea VSS1800's design. Let's start with the main unit. It's white and houses a 150-watt motor.
The control buttons are located on the top of the handle. These include the power on/off switch and switching between two operating modes: low and high power. The battery charge and maximum power mode are indicated by corresponding indicators; there is no display.
Unfortunately, the battery is not removable. The dust bin is emptied by pressing a button that opens the bottom. The dust bin itself is conveniently removable. Inside, there's a fabric filter and a cyclone with a mesh. Another filter, a foam one, is removed from the end of the main unit. There's no HEPA filter.
As for the attachments, the main floor attachment features a swivel joint. The front features LED lighting to highlight the cleaning area.
This budget-friendly roller is easy to remove after removing the locking mechanism. No additional tools are required. Its flexible bristle inserts make it suitable for cleaning both hard floors and carpets.
Sliding bristle nozzle and standard crevice nozzle.
Both attachments and the vacuum cleaner itself can be conveniently stored on a floor stand.
And here's what the vacuum cleaner looks like when assembled:
The pros and cons of the design will be discussed when summing up the results.
Technical specifications
The main characteristics of the Midea VSS1800, as declared by the manufacturer, are displayed on the screen:
- Power consumption: 150 W.
- Li-Ion battery 2000 mAh.
- Operating time up to 45 min.
- Dust collector: 600 ml.
- Noise level 72.5-80 dB.
- Weight when fully assembled: 2.36 kg.
The vacuum cleaner's noise level was measured personally. It ranged from 72.5 to 80 dB, depending on the selected mode.
The main unit weighs 1,525 grams, the extension tube weighs 261 grams, and the main floor nozzle weighs 568 grams. The fully assembled vacuum weighs 2,354 grams. It's lighter than most similar vacuums, which is a significant factor for many.
Testing
A detailed video review of the Midea VSS1800, including all tests, has already been prepared and published on the channel:
Opening hours
And finally, let's move on to the tests. First, let's check the Midea VSS1800's battery life in Turbo mode with the main floor nozzle attached. It managed 21 minutes and 15 seconds of runtime, which is a very good result. The standard runtime for cordless vacuum cleaners is between 10 and 12 minutes.
Suction power
Regarding suction power, at minimum power, the vacuum cleaner was able to suck up debris from crevices up to 4 m deep. At maximum power, it completely cleaned a 10 mm crevice. At the same power, it was able to reach crevices up to 20 mm deep. On a test bench, the vacuum cleaner failed to reach crevices up to 35 mm deep. In other words, its power is average, which explains its long runtime.
Collecting debris on laminate flooring
Now let's test how well the Midea VSS1800 picks up floor debris. I scattered various types of debris on the laminate flooring: hair, fur, grains, and other small household debris. It picked up the bulk of that debris. It's important to note that it doesn't have a blind spot in the corner, but there's another caveat. The nozzle isn't capable of picking up large debris like cat litter pellets. As a result, it needs to be lifted. It's not very convenient. And if large debris gets lodged in a corner, it's difficult to remove.
Carpet cleaning
The vacuum cleaner does a good job of cleaning carpets, including both carpet and medium-pile carpets. This is thanks to the elastic bristles in the turbo brush, which thoroughly clean the pile.
And here is the condition of the turbo brush after all the tests:
You can see that the bristle inserts get caught in fur and hair, so the brush will have to be cleaned manually.
Using additional attachments
It's also worth noting that the two additional attachments allow you to clean a sofa, areas the main attachment can't reach, and even the inside of a car. Overall, this vacuum cleaner is suitable for a variety of applications.
Cleaning the dust collector
Finally, I'll tell you how to clean the dust bin. Just press the button, and all the debris falls out through the bottom. If hair or fur gets stuck in the bin, you can remove the dust bin, take out the filtration system, and shake out the remaining contents without touching the debris. Convenient!
Personal opinion
The Midea VSS1800 cordless stick vacuum cleaner was thoroughly reviewed and tested. I'll highlight its pros and cons, then share my thoughts. Here's what I liked:
- Favorable price.
- Long working time.
- High-quality waste collection on various surfaces.
- Removable dust collector.
- Convenient storage on a floor stand.
- Light weight when fully assembled.
- Availability of warranty and service.
As for the shortcomings, the following comments were identified regarding the vacuum cleaner:
- Non-removable battery.
- No display.
- No HEPA filter.
- The nozzle is not capable of capturing large debris.
- The kit does not include a turbo brush attachment for cleaning mattresses and upholstered furniture.
- There is no vertical parking outside the holder.
Overall, given the vacuum's price, most of the criticisms are expected and forgivable for this price range. So, if your budget is limited to $100 and you're looking for an upright vacuum from a proven brand, this option is definitely recommended. At least, no criticisms were found. That's why it made it into the top 5 best cordless vacuums under $100 in 2024.
On this note, I'd like to end this review. Happy shopping, everyone. Bye!
