This year, Ecovacs released a new model of its wet and dry robot vacuum cleaner, the Deebot Ozmo T8 AIVI. This device is an updated version of the 950 and T5 models. It also features significant improvements in mapping and adaptability to room and flooring conditions. A built-in camera in the front of the device, combined with DToF laser detection technology, ensures precise detection of even small objects on the floor. You don't need to spend extra time preparing rooms before using the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo T8 AIVI, as the vacuum now won't get tangled in socks, cords, or curtains. Only one competitor offers similar navigation technology: Roborock S6 MaxV, as well as a model from the Ecovacs family - DEEBOT OZMO 960Later in the review, we'll take a closer look at the features of the new robot vacuum cleaner from Ecovacs.

Equipment

The Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo T8 AIVI package includes the following components:

  1. Robot vacuum cleaner.
  2. Charging base.
  3. Two sets of side brushes (main + spare pair).
  4. Water tank.
  5. Mop.
  6. Disposable wipes (5 pcs.).
  7. HEPA filter (2 pcs.).
  8. Cleaning tool.
  9. Instructions.

When reviewing the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo T8 AIVI from the back, we see the large drive wheels, swivel caster, charging contacts, battery compartment, side brushes, central turbo brush, and cliff sensors. A microfiber cloth is also installed on the bottom of the robot vacuum (the tank is mounted at the rear). Incidentally, the tank itself is equipped with an anti-drip sensor that allows you to pause the water flow when cleaning carpets, or when lifting the robot from the floor.

Technical specifications

Below in the table you will find a brief overview of the technical characteristics of the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo T8 AIVI robot vacuum cleaner:

Type of cleaning Dry and wet
Power supply Li-Ion battery 14.4 V, 5200 mAh
Opening hours ≈180 min.
Charging time ≈300 min.
Cleaning area Up to 220 m2

Comparing the specifications of the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo T8 AIVI with the flagship Roboorock, they are virtually identical. Roboorock has a slightly larger water tank and dust bin (460/300 ml).

Functional capabilities

One of the major changes concerns the robot's navigation system. The new model features a front-mounted camera capable of recognizing even small objects to avoid collisions.

Compared to its predecessors, the new robot vacuum avoids obstacles and slows down when approaching them. According to the manufacturer's statistics, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo T8 AIVI's built-in camera reduces the risk of getting stuck by 60%. This technology, called DToF Laser Detection, represents the first such application of the aerospace standard with quadruple accuracy.

Additionally, the system allows the robot vacuum to create a precise map and display it faster, adapting to the room's layout. Multiple maps of different floors can be scanned and saved in the mobile app.

The AIVI™ technology, already mentioned in the review, provides an object recognition speed 200% higher than other models in the line.

The robot dry cleans various types of flooring with a main brush and two side brushes that direct debris into the dust bin. The bin is equipped with a three-layer dust filtration system that captures up to 99% of the smallest dust and dirt particles and effectively filters particles down to 6 microns.

The robot vacuum cleaner is equipped with carpet-recognition sensors. In wet cleaning mode, the robot vacuum cleaner will avoid carpets, and when the water tank is removed, the device will automatically increase suction power. The liquid supply level can be controlled via the app.

To limit the cleaning area, users can set virtual boundaries in the app, which is very convenient. The app also offers the following features:

  • selection of a specific cleaning area;
  • selecting a room for cleaning on the map, etc.

The Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo T8 AIVI is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Google Home, allowing you to control it not only with the button on the body and the mobile app, but also via voice commands.

Advantages and disadvantages

To conclude our review, we will provide a list of the pros and cons of the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo T8 AIVI robot vacuum cleaner.

Pros:

  1. Technology for detecting objects on the floor.
  2. Building a map of the premises.
  3. Saving multiple maps in memory (relevant for two- or three-story houses).
  4. Long working time.
  5. Automatic recognition of carpets and increased suction power when driving onto them.
  6. Simultaneous dry and wet cleaning.
  7. Setting virtual boundaries.
  8. Room-specific cleaning functions, priority setting.
  9. Control from a smartphone.
  10. Working with voice assistants.
  11. Electronic adjustment of suction power and degree of cloth wetting.
  12. Two side brushes.

The downside of this robot vacuum is its high price, which ranges from $550 to $600. However, the price is more than reasonable for these advanced features. More importantly, we need to determine whether the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo T8 AIVI will compete with the Roborock S6 MaxV. For now, we can only compare the available data. The Roborock has a larger dust bin and water tank, a dual chamber, more power (2500 Pa versus 1500 Pa), and a dynamic side brush. Moreover, the price is the same. So, in our personal opinion, the flagship Roborock S6 MaxV is the superior choice.
