Ecovacs Deebot X1 Omni: A Long-Awaited Review and Test of the TOP Robot Vacuum Cleaner

This review finally covers one of the most popular premium robot vacuum cleaners—the Ecovacs Deebot X1 Omni. Information about it first surfaced at the end of 2021. In 2022, the robot went on sale and continues to sell at a similarly high rate. Prices start at $650 for the Chinese version on AliExpress, and reach a record-breaking $1,240 for the partially Russian-language version, which comes with a local warranty. For this price, the manufacturer offers a nearly complete package of advanced features. These include a self-cleaning and rinsing station, an active camera for object recognition and remote home monitoring, an effective cleaning module with two rotating microfiber cloths, and a wide variety of settings in the proprietary mobile app. In short, premium features for the price. So, the Ecovacs Deebot X1 Omni was thoroughly reviewed and tested, after which I expressed my own opinion on when it is worth buying.
Equipment
The robot vacuum cleaner arrived in a branded box like this:
In addition to the robot and station, the delivery kit includes:
- Power cord with Chinese plug.
- Power cord with European plug.
- Operating instructions in Chinese.
- Operating instructions in Russian.
- New design microfiber cloth holders.
- Standard set of microfiber cloths.
- Brush for cleaning the station.
- Branded cleaning product.
The robot comes with a decent set of accessories. While not the most comprehensive, it does include some necessary operating accessories.
Appearance
Now let's take a look at the Ecovacs Deebot X1 Omni's design. Let's start with the robot vacuum itself. It's black and gray, with a non-marking coating and a round body.
Wall sensors are located on the left and right bumper. An active camera with 3D sensors is mounted in the center to detect and accurately avoid objects on the floor. The body height is 103 mm from the floor.
On the top of the body is a single touch button to start the cleaning process. The lidar sensor, which is responsible for the robot's navigation, has a spring-loaded cover to prevent it from getting stuck under furniture. The top cover is held in place with magnets and is easily removed. Beneath it are the power on/off button, the Wi-Fi reset button, a QR code for connecting the robot to the network, and the dust container. The container is washable with water. There's no mention of a filter. The dust container capacity is 400 ml. It has a triple filtration system: a mesh filter, a foam filter, and a HEPA filter.
The robot also has a small 80 ml water tank, hidden inside the body. Water is automatically pumped into the tank at the station and dispensed onto the cleaning pads during cleaning.
The robot vacuum cleaner is equipped with six fall protection sensors on the bottom. A carpet detection sensor is located next to the swivel roller. There are two side brushes, each with a three-pronged design and quick-release. The central brush unit is floating. The brush itself is made of bristles and petals. It can be easily removed from both sides for cleaning tangled hair and fur.
As for the wipes, they attach to the holders with Velcro. The structure is very dense. The platforms themselves are held to the robot by magnets. Unfortunately, there's no option to lift the wipes when driving onto carpets, as is the case with its closest competitors, the Dreame Bot L10s Ultra and Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra.
Now let's look at the station where the Ecovacs Deebot X1 Omni self-cleans. The platform where the robot enters the station is unfortunately not removable. Above it is a compartment with a waste bag. The bag holds up to 3 liters of dry waste. Three touch-sensitive control buttons are located on top of the station.
Under the top lid are spacious reservoirs for clean and dirty water, each holding 4 liters.
And right out of the box, a cardboard box containing a brush and detergent was placed between the tanks. Ideally, this would have been a plastic compartment, which, for some reason, wasn't included in this batch. However, accessories can be stored just like that, simply left inside between the tanks.
Now, please pay attention. My specific version of the Ecovacs Deebot X1 Omni is equipped with an updated station that can be connected to both sewer and water supply systems. This is the latest update for 2022, so not all retailers offer this specific version. As I understand it, this station is from the new flagship Ecovacs Deebot X1 PRO Omni, which has just become available. A distinctive feature is the new station, which features a special cover that houses the connections for utility lines. The sewer and water supply connection module itself is installed in place of the tanks and is purchased separately. It's important that the station supports this feature. There is a link to the seller at the end of the review., which offers exactly this version of the station and robot.
I'd also like to point out that, regardless of the version, the station contains a silver element that disinfects the water. This solution is far more effective than the LED UV lamps offered by other manufacturers.
Overall, the Ecovacs Deebot X1 Omni's design is impressive. The robot is well-built, all components are well-designed, and it's worth noting that it's quite heavy. Overall, it inspires confidence.
Technical specifications
The main characteristics of the Ecovacs Deebot X1 Omni, as stated by the manufacturer:
- Navigation: Lidar + AIVI
- Li-Ion battery 5200 mAh
- Suction power up to 5000 Pa
- Operating time up to 260 min
- Cleaning area up to 360 sq.m.
- Dust collector 400 ml
- Water tank 80 ml
- Tanks in the station: 4 + 4 l
- Bag in the station: 3 l
- Obstacle clearance up to 20 mm
- Dimensions: 362*103 mm
It's worth highlighting the increased suction power, which will certainly be verified in tests, and, as noted earlier, the increased capacity of the water tanks.
Functional capabilities
Speaking of the Ecovacs Deebot X1 Omni's features, the robot vacuum is controlled via the proprietary Ecovacs Home mobile app. Since this is a Chinese version, you need a Chinese phone number to log in. The seller should provide all access details. At least that's what I did. They are unique to each buyer. Connecting the robot to the app was straightforward. It's important to note that the app interface is in English, but the robot itself only speaks Chinese, so it's best to completely disable voice notifications. This is one of the robot's main drawbacks—the lack of a Russian language adaptation. However, as mentioned in the introduction, a Russian-language version is also available, costing over $1,000. You won't need to log in with a Chinese phone number, and the interface will be in Russian. Whether this is worth paying almost double the price is entirely up to you. I wouldn't. Cleaning performance doesn't change depending on the interface language. It's all about convenience and the local warranty.
The main functions of the Ecovacs Deebot X1 Omni are displayed on the screen:
- Self-cleaning.
- Rinsing napkins at the station.
- Drying napkins with hot air.
- Recognizing objects on the floor.
- Remote home monitoring via smartphone.
- Saving multiple cleaning maps in memory.
- 3D map of the room.
- Automatic zoning of premises into rooms.
- Selecting areas and rooms for cleaning.
- Virtual walls and no-go zones (and for wet cleaning mode).
- Suction power adjustment.
- Setting the frequency of rinsing wipes (10, 15, 25 minutes).
- User mode.
- Perimeter cleaning mode.
- Cleaning log.
- Setting up cleaning according to a schedule.
- Automatic power increase on carpet.
- Carpet cleaning in wet cleaning mode.
There are several interesting features worth noting. The first is remote home monitoring via the robot's camera, which can be accessed via a smartphone. There's even a security mode, where the robot leaves its station at a specified time and takes 360-degree photos of each room. Voice messages can also be transmitted via the robot's speaker.
The second interesting feature is the perimeter cleaning mode, called "Corner Deep Cleaning" in the app. This mode isn't meant to deeply clean corners, but rather to allow the robot to back up against baseboards and furniture as it goes around the perimeter. The side cleaning pads don't extend beyond the edge of the body, leaving unwashed areas, but this mode allows the pads to reach the edges of the cleaning area. This is a unique solution that somewhat alleviates the problem of scrubbing along baseboards. I just couldn't figure out how to force this mode. I was able to do it on the display, but I couldn't do it separately to show the algorithm up close in a home environment. I ran it several times, reset the settings, but the robot still cleaned in the standard mode. Apparently, this is somehow activated by software, as specified by the manufacturer, once a week.
The third thing I'd like to mention is the robot's integrated YIKO voice assistant, which can be used to control it. The idea is cool, but since the model isn't intended for the Russian market, commands can only be given in English, and it works very poorly. Even if you buy the Russian-language version from the official dealer. Therefore, the idea gets an A, but the implementation in Russia gets a C.
Overall, the Ecovacs Deebot X1 Omni offers very interesting functionality. It has all the basic features for flexible cleaning settings.
Testing
A detailed video review of the Ecovacs Deebot X1 Omni, including all tests, has already been prepared and published on the channel:
Navigation
And finally, let's move on to the tests. First, we'll test the Ecovacs Deebot X1 Omni's navigation in a room with obstacles. First, the robot vacuum cleaner navigates the perimeter of the room, then cleans the entire accessible area in a serpentine pattern. It carefully navigated around the legs of the dryer, as well as other objects, and even swept around the box and chair legs. Test successful!
Speaking of navigation within the home, the Ecovacs X1 Omni cleans room by room, following the perimeter and then in a serpentine pattern. According to the settings, it returned to the cleaning station twice to rinse the wipes. This model has excellent navigation!
Definition of objects
The ability to detect and avoid objects on the floor was tested separately. The Ecovacs Deebot X1 Omni touches almost everything while cleaning. It didn't detect the simulated pet surprise and drove over it. It chewed the charger cord, and for the rest of the cleaning time, it moved around with the cord stuck, periodically disengaging its brushes. I repeated the test and got the same result.
Moreover, in complete darkness, the robot surprisingly cleaned up more carefully, only running into a pet surprise. It didn't chew the wire and carefully steered around it.
Here I came to the conclusion that the algorithm is simply designed to approach detected objects very closely, resulting in the side brushes still sweeping them up. In other words, the robot clearly detects all objects in its path, but doesn't maintain a safe distance from them. I hope this issue will be fixed.
Another point: the Deebot X1 Omni identifies objects, but doesn't recognize them. It doesn't display icons of identified objects on the map, unlike Roborococcus and Dreame. Therefore, the robot's artificial intelligence is questionable.
However, the robot does clean thoroughly and sweeps away most items, so the function is not useless, it just needs some improvement.
Suction power
The Ecovacs Deebot X1 Omni's suction power was impressive. In Max mode, it managed to partially vacuum up debris from a 10mm gap, and in Max+ mode, it did so more confidently, thoroughly vacuuming up the debris. So, this robot is truly powerful!
Dry cleaning
The collection performance of various types of debris on laminate floors is good. Only a small amount of debris remains in corners, where round robotic vacuums can't reach. The central brush caught some hair and fur. However, the majority of the debris was collected in the dust bin. Test passed!
Carpet cleaning
The same debris was scattered on the carpet, and the X1 Omni did a good job. No hair remained on the carpet, and the pile was thoroughly cleaned. This test was also passed!
Wet cleaning and carpets
When it comes to wet cleaning on carpets, the robot has an automatic carpet avoidance feature in wet cleaning mode. This ensures the robot won't wet the carpets during cleaning, and there's no need to even set up separate no-go zones for wet cleaning.
Wiping off dirt
This robot vacuum cleaner did a good job of removing dirt, even without stopping to rinse the cloths in between. This is the main advantage of such robots. During the second run, it picked up all the remaining stains and finally ran around the perimeter in "Corner Deep Cleaning" mode, more thoroughly removing dirt along the baseboards. Overall, it has the best result among robot vacuum cleaners in this test so far.
Removing difficult stains
To remove tough stains like dried-on sauce and coffee, I used the brand's cleaning solution, adding it to a tank of clean water. The X1 Omni effortlessly removed the coffee stains and managed to remove the sauce stains in just four passes. This robot's cloths press more firmly onto the floor than similar robots, making wet cleaning more effective.
Here's what the napkins look like after this test:
Rinsing quality of wipes
I also tested the cleaning performance of the wipes when the robot scrubbed away dirt. Even visually, I can say the station does a good job. Under the pressure of warm water, we see some dirt being washed out of the wipes. But the results are the same as those of similar products. Acceptable.
It's also worth noting that after rinsing, the wipes are dried at a hot air station, and the drying is actually effective.
Self-cleaning
The self-cleaning function was also tested. The robot vacuum cleaner collected a large amount of debris from the floor, the dust bin was completely full, and we returned the robot to the station. After self-cleaning, we saw that a small amount of debris remained in the dust bin. This observation is also found in reviews of this model – self-cleaning is not perfect. However, most of the debris is emptied, and when the bin is not completely full after a typical household cleaning, the dust removal results are better.
Obstacle clearance
As for cross-country ability, Ecovacs Deebot X1 Omni is able to cross 2 cm thresholds, and this is a plus!
Driving through black surfaces
And another advantage: the robot vacuum cleaner is not afraid of black floor coverings, moving freely over them.
Noise level
Finally, we measured the noise level in different modes. At minimum power, it ranged from 60-62 dB, while in standard mode, the noise level was roughly the same. In Max mode, the noise level reached 64 dB, and at maximum power, the peak was 71.1 dB. Considering that in Max mode, the robot was able to vacuum debris from a 10 mm gap, I don't see any point in using Max mode at all. In other modes, the robot operates relatively quietly.
Personal opinion
The Ecovacs Deebot X1 Omni robot vacuum cleaner has been thoroughly reviewed and tested. our evaluation system he managed to gain 178 points, losing one point Dreame Bot L10s Ultra.
Overall rating of tested robot vacuum cleaners:https://robovac.washerhouse.com/en/rejtingi/robovac-obshhij-rejting-robotov-pylesosov-robo.html.
I will share my own opinion after a detailed acquaintance.
I liked the following:
- High-quality waste collection on both hard surfaces and carpets.
- Effectively removes dirt from the floor.
- High suction power.
- Capable of cleaning areas right up to the baseboard thanks to the “Corner Deep Cleaning” mode.
- Availability of a station for self-cleaning and rinsing of wipes.
- Spacious tanks at the station.
- Water disinfection with a silver module.
- The station can be connected to the sewer and water supply by purchasing the appropriate module (not all station versions support this, please note).
- A large number of functions in the application.
- Good navigation.
- Remote home monitoring via smartphone.
- Not afraid of black coatings.
- Good cross-country ability.
- Low noise level.
- High quality assembly.
- Well, and the presence of two side brushes, for those who find this fundamentally important.
Speaking of shortcomings, there are some as well. The main ones I was able to identify are:
- The system for identifying objects requires improvement.
- The napkins do not rise when driving onto carpets.
- The model is intended for the Chinese market, so the app interface is in English and the built-in voice assistant does not work.
- Does not support popular voice assistants.
- Non-removable platform for rinsing wipes (not convenient to clean).
- The self-cleaning of the dust collector is not perfect; some debris may remain in the robot’s container.
Overall, this model has far more advantages than disadvantages. And, in my opinion, the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. In any case, the Ecovacs Deebot X1 Omni robot vacuum cleaner left a good impression. It demonstrated high-quality cleaning and surprised me with its features, some of which are unique developments. The main issues with it are related to the app, and I hope a Russian language version will be added in the future, and other issues will be fixed. Overall, this robot vacuum cleaner is definitely recommended, and in my opinion, it is the optimal solution for cleaning large areas on hard floors, due to the fact that the cleaning pads do not lift up on carpets. Alternatively, you can run it for a full dry cleaning without the cleaning pads, so that it also vacuums carpets, and then run it separately in floor mopping mode. This is only if you prefer it over similar products with a lifting function.
On that note, I'd like to end this review. If you have any questions, please ask them in the comments. Happy shopping. Bye!

I bought this "miracle." It seems to clean well, but it completely ignores carpets. Is there anyway to enable the carpet cleaning function? The app doesn't have a dry-only option.
Only if you remove the napkins, then it will go onto the carpets
Good afternoon. Is it possible, after removing the cleaning cloths, to just clean the carpets it missed during the wet cleaning? Or should I just vacuum the entire apartment again?
Hello! Yes, you can. You can use the cleaning mode to clean selected areas.
Good afternoon! I bought a Deebot X1 vacuum cleaner from China, but I can't connect to the remote monitoring app. It's asking for a 4-digit password! Could you tell me what the password is and where I can find it?
You must enter it yourself the first time you enable this function, twice. Then it will be installed.
How do I add liquid detergent to the water tank directly connected to the water supply if there's no tank? Does that mean that if I connect it to the water supply, I'll always wash the floors without detergent?
There is a special tank in the module for detergent, which will be automatically dosed when water is supplied from the water supply.
Good afternoon. Can I add detergent to the water tank?
Hello! Yes, of course. Only the right products and in the right dosage.
