iRobot Roomba e5: Replacement for the 800 Series Roomba

The American company iRobot manufactures and markets robotic equipment that makes home cleaning easier. Robot vacuums significantly simplify cleaning any room, leaving more time for personal needs. The Roomba e5 is designed for dry cleaning. The robot vacuum is scheduled for release in late February 2019 (the estimated Russian launch date). This article provides a detailed review of the iRobot Roomba e5, covering its features and what to expect.
Equipment
The robot vacuum cleaner is sold in a cardboard box containing all necessary components. The package includes the necessary parts to ensure the robot operates efficiently and smoothly. The iRobot Roomba e5 package includes the following items:
- The robot vacuum cleaner itself.
- Virtual wall.
- Two pairs of AA batteries for the virtual wall.
- Charging base with power supply.
- Power cable for the network.
- Main and additional HEPA filter.
- Operating instructions.
Appearance
Like almost every iRobot vacuum cleaner, the Roomba e5 robot vacuum has a nearly perfect round shape. The body itself is made of durable black plastic. The dust container lid takes up almost the entire front panel. It opens with a gentle press of the handle running around the perimeter.
In the very center of the panel, on the dust bin lid, are three buttons: a large central button, which starts and stops the vacuum, and two small buttons on the sides, which control the iRobot Roomba e5 during operation. Near the buttons, the company logo and series are printed in silver.
A bumper is installed along the front side panel to protect the device from accidental collisions and damage. This movable bumper houses infrared navigation sensors.
A look at the bottom of the device revealed a central brush, which removes debris and dust. Two drive wheels are mounted on either side of it. Another small wheel is located at the front of the robot. It's used for turning and maneuvering around furniture. To the right of the adjustment wheel is a single side brush, which cleans corners and the surface along baseboards. The battery compartment is located at the rear of the unit.

Functional capabilities
The iRobot Roomba e5 robot vacuum cleaner is designed for dry cleaning not only of smooth surfaces such as tile, wood, parquet, and laminate. It can also clean short-pile carpets. High-quality cleaning is ensured by the patented three-stage AeroForce technology. This technology incorporates three components that would not provide such effectiveness on their own.
- Side brush. This rotating part ensures dust removal in corners and along baseboards. For greater efficiency, it is set at a 27-degree angle.
- Waste container. Completely sealed with a high-quality HEPA filter, this waste container provides allergy-free cleaning.
- A central block with brushes. Because they are installed facing each other, they ensure cleaning of any type of surface.
Cleaning efficiency is also achieved through special built-in sensors, which allow the iRobot Roomba e5 robot vacuum to overcome obstacles as small as 2 cm. The device can also detect stairs and avoid them. The manufacturer has redesigned and improved the suction unit, making it more powerful.
The iRobot Roomba e5 is controlled via Wi-Fi using a tablet or smartphone. The robot vacuum itself has a special module that enables wireless communication between the robot and the mobile device. You can use your phone to control the device and change its settings. You can also use the app to set a cleaning schedule, track the robot vacuum's location, and monitor its remaining battery level.
Using sensors built into its body, the iRobot Roomba e5 robot vacuum cleaner scans the room and identifies the dirtiest areas. It will then move through that area until all debris is removed. The Roomba e5 also features spot cleaning, which allows it to clean a specific area.
The kit includes a virtual wall that limits the robot's movement. This wall operates in two modes:
- Prohibition of entry into another room.
- Setting up a circular perimeter that the robot vacuum cleaner cannot enter.
Advantages and disadvantages
The robot vacuum cleaner stands out for its features and advantages:
- Performing your work with high quality.
- Three-stage AeroForce technology increases cleaning efficiency.
- Simplicity and ease of use.
- Virtual wall included.
- The robot vacuum cleaner independently finds and returns to its charging station.
- Control via app, including voice assistants.
Upon closer inspection of the iRobot Roomba e5, we found no significant drawbacks. Here's what we personally didn't like:
- Lack of improved carpet cleaning. The robot vacuum only cleans short-pile carpets.
- Navigation at the level of the 600th series iRobot (only due to sensors), no mapping.
- Budget case, no rubberized bumper.
Considering that the average price of the model is $295, it can be said that overall, this is not the best robot vacuum cleaner in its class, but in terms of dry cleaning, not many new robots can boast such a high quality of floor cleaning.
This model is perfect for both daily cleaning and post-holiday cleaning. Thanks to its capabilities, the device performs its job efficiently.
