Xiaomi Lydsto W2 Edge: IMPORTANT Cleaning Module Update

The new Lydsto W2 Edge robot vacuum cleaner is an updated version of the W2, featuring a number of significant improvements. The key improvement is the extending cleaning cloth holder to the edge of the unit, ensuring a firmer hold against baseboards and a more thorough cleaning. Additionally, the robot's cleaning cloths now rise 10 mm when entering carpets. Additionally, suction power has been increased to 8000 Pa. In short, the previously released W2 was redesigned to make the robot vacuum cleaner more effective and versatile. Below, I'll thoroughly test the Lydsto W2 Edge, highlight its pros and cons, and share my opinion on whether it's worth buying. The price at the time of writing is between $590 and $750. So, let's get started!

Equipment

The robot vacuum cleaner arrived in a branded box like this:

The package includes:

1. Soft pad for the station.
2. Station.
3. Robot vacuum cleaner.
4. Power adapter.
5. Brush for cleaning the robot.
6. Two spare napkins.
7. Two spare side brushes.
8. Spare HEPA filter.
9. Spare bag for the station.
10. Operating instructions.

The kit is complete. It includes all the accessories and consumables needed for the robot's first use. That's a plus!

Appearance

Now let's look at the Lydsto W2 Edge's design. It comes in white. The body is oval, not round. The robot is slightly elongated.

The bumper has two wall sensors on different sides and an obstacle detection sensor in the center.

The control panel has three mechanical control buttons on top. The lidar is equipped with a spring-loaded cover to prevent the robot from getting stuck under furniture.

The dust container holds 350 ml of dry waste. Inside, there's a curtain through which waste is sucked into a bag in the station. The filtration system is HEPA-only.

At the rear of the body, we see a channel for unloading waste. The robot has no water tank. The wipes are only moistened at the station.

There are four fall protection sensors on the bottom of the body. Next to the swivel roller is a carpet detection sensor. This is a plus. There are two side brushes. This is a minor, but still an advantage over similar products.

The central brush unit is floating. The turbo brush itself is made of bristles and petals. Both sides can be disassembled to remove tangled hair and pet hair.

The napkin holders attach easily to the robot using magnets. The napkins are attached to the holders with Velcro. A feature that lifts the napkins when entering carpets has been implemented, which is a welcome upgrade from the previous version.

Well, we see that under one of the napkins there is a mechanism that extends the holder to the edge of the case.

A similar decision was first announced in Dreame Bot X20 Pro, and then they began to implement it in subsequent innovations L20 Ultra Complete, L30 Ultra And so on. This solution is very clever and completely eliminates the blind spot between the edge of the cleaning cloth and the baseboard. Furthermore, the extending cleaning cloth allows the robot vacuum cleaner to better clean the floor around chair legs and other objects.

Let's move on to an overview of the station. It's equipped with an informative display and touch-sensitive control buttons. This is very convenient. The robot's platform is removable, which is very convenient. It makes cleaning it much easier if necessary.

At the Lydsto W2 Edge station itself, the wipes are washed with hot water, dried with warm air, and the dust bin is self-cleaning. A waste sterilization system is also installed, but I can't verify the effectiveness of the disinfection. Lydsto engineers have also implemented water disinfection using silver ions.

Under the top cover are a dirty water tank, a clean water tank, and a waste bag, conveniently located next to which are cleaning tools. The waste bag holds up to 3 liters of dry waste. The clean and dirty water tanks hold up to 4 liters of water, offering slightly increased capacity. Conveniently, the clean water tank has a hole with a sealed valve for filling without removing the tank.

It is still not possible to connect the station to the sewer and water supply.

Of the specifications, the only important thing to note is the stated increased suction power, which will be verified in tests. The rest of the specifications are quite standard. For those interested, the station's height with the lid raised is 70 cm.

Functional capabilities

Speaking of functionality, the Lydsto W2 Edge is controlled via the Lydsto app. It can also be connected to the Mi Home app for smart home integration. The interface is in Russian, and the app runs smoothly, which is a plus.

The main functions of the robot are displayed on the screen:

• Disinfection of water and waste.

• Automatic zoning of premises into rooms.

I'd just like to point out that the Lydsto W2 Edge has its own approach to setting the wipe wash interval. You can select intervals of 6, 9, or 12 minutes. This isn't always convenient. For example, other brands offer the option to wash wipes after each cleaned area or after a selected cleaning area. There's also no way to adjust the wipe wetness.

Navigation

And finally, let's move on to the tests. First, we'll test the Lydsto W2 Edge's navigation in a room with obstacles. The robot vacuum first moves around the perimeter of the room, then cleans the entire accessible area in a serpentine pattern. It didn't get stuck on the dryer's legs. It also swept around the box and chair legs separately, then returned to the station. The test was successful.

Speaking of navigation within the house, the robot vacuum cleans room by room, following the perimeter, then in a serpentine pattern. Every 12 minutes, as I've determined, it returns to the station and rinses its cleaning cloths, then resumes cleaning from where it left off. There are no uncleaned areas left; this model has excellent navigation!

Suction power

The suction power, however, was quite average. The robot vacuum cleaner was only able to suck up debris from a 2 mm gap. Moreover, the robot is quite loud at maximum power, giving the impression of being very powerful. However, in reality, the power fell short of expectations. Nevertheless, it is sufficient for maintaining cleanliness in the home, especially on hard floors.

Dry cleaning

Dry cleaning performance on hard floors is excellent. The robot vacuum completely picked up debris from the floor. It left some debris in the corners, like most other round robots. Some hair got caught on the center brush. However, most of the debris was collected in the dust bin. Test passed!

Carpet cleaning

The same debris was scattered on a low-pile carpet. And I can say that the Lydsto W2 Edge thoroughly cleaned the carpet. It can also clean medium-pile carpet, but not as effectively.

Wet cleaning and carpets

When it comes to wet cleaning on carpeted floors, the Lydsto W2 Edge automatically lifts its cleaning pads when it enters the carpet. But there are some caveats.

Firstly, the lifting height of the pads is actually less than 10 mm, and the pads, although not tightly, can still make contact with medium pile. Secondly, the pad lifting function doesn't activate immediately upon entering carpets, but after 20-30 cm, which can cause the carpet edges to become scuffed by the wet rotating pads. And thirdly, during testing, the robot repeatedly released the pad when attempting to enter a carpet, after which it would encounter an error. Therefore, if this problem persists, I recommend enabling the automatic carpet avoidance mode, which will allow the robot vacuum cleaner to detect the carpet and avoid it without wetting the pads.

Overall, I think the napkin lifting system needs some improvement. They should lift even higher and faster.

Wiping off dirt

This robot vacuum cleaner handles dirt removal with an intermediate stop at the cleaning station to wash the cleaning cloths. This is the main advantage of such robots. Dirt won't be ground into the floor during the entire cleaning process. Consequently, in just a few passes, the robot can actually clean the floor, not just mop it. And there's no unwashed area along the baseboards, thanks to the cleaning cloth extending to the edge of the unit.

Removing difficult stains

The Lydsto W2 Edge struggled with removing dried-on coffee and sauce stains. It managed to remove the coffee stains, but only partially removed the sauce. In its defense, it's not designed for this type of use. The test only shows that the pressure of the cloths on the floor isn't as strong as that of specialized robotic floor cleaners.

Washing napkins

I'll also talk about the cleaning performance of the wipes after testing. After the last time I cleaned the floor of some tough stains, the wipes were in pretty bad shape. The robot vacuum returned to the station and rinsed them. Visually, they really did look much cleaner.

Station maintenance

The stations are incredibly easy to maintain. Simply remove the dirty platform, rinse it in the sink, and return it. Very convenient!

Self-cleaning quality

The dust bin's self-cleaning performance is also near perfect. The dust bin is tightly packed after cleaning. We return the robot vacuum to its docking station and see (see video review) that the dust bin is completely empty after self-cleaning. Self-cleaning is well implemented.

Obstacle clearance

Although some stores claim it can handle obstacles up to 15 mm, the Lydsto W2 Edge was able to overcome a 20 mm threshold without any problems, even with the pads installed. The robot has good maneuverability.

Driving on black surfaces

The robot vacuum cleaner is sensitive to black carpets, detecting them due to differences in height, like most other robot vacuums. This is important to keep in mind. However, this problem does not arise on hard black surfaces.

Noise level

As for the noise level, it ranges from 60 to 73.5 dB, depending on the selected mode. As I mentioned earlier, the Lydsto W2 Edge seems very powerful in terms of noise, but in reality, this power is lost somewhere.

Let's sum it up

The Lydsto W2 Edge robot vacuum cleaner has been thoroughly reviewed and tested. our evaluation system he was able to dial 160 points, surpassing the previously released one by 10 points Lydsto W2.

I'll highlight the pros and cons I discovered, and then share my own opinion about the robot I tested.

I liked the following:

1. Availability of a station for self-cleaning and washing napkins.
2. The station's ergonomic and efficient design (including a removable platform, effective napkin drying, hot water washing, sterilization, high-quality self-cleaning, and even a control panel on the body) is impressive. Overall, this station is awesome!
3. The napkin moves to the edge of the body.
4. The function of lifting napkins on carpets.
5. High-quality wet cleaning of large areas.
6. Complete Russification.
7. A large number of functions for flexible adjustment of cleaning parameters.
8. Good cross-country ability.
9. Two side brushes, for whom this is important.
10. Large water tanks at the station.
11. Complete set.
12. Optimal price, considering the presence of a lidar and a combined station.

Speaking about the disadvantages, I would like to highlight the following, in order from the most important to the least significant:

1. The mechanism for lifting the carpet mats needs improvement. They should rise faster and higher.
2. The claimed suction power was not confirmed in real-world tests.
3. There is no water tank in the robot itself and it is not possible to adjust the degree of wetting of the wipes.
4. There is no possibility to connect the station to the sewerage and water supply.
5. Not capable of removing difficult stains.
6. There is no function to automatically mix detergent into water.
7. The robot vacuum cleaner is afraid of black carpets.
8. There is no system for identifying objects on the floor.

Ultimately, I can say that the Lydsto W2 Edge update is certainly a significant one. The ability to clean along baseboards and lift up carpets is something the previous version sorely lacked. However, there are still a number of issues that were present with the regular W2, and it's surprising that Lydsto engineers haven't addressed some of these issues. These issues have left a bad taste in my mouth, as well as mixed feelings about the new product.

I would recommend this robot vacuum primarily for wet cleaning on hard floors. The cloth lift function will preserve the moisture in the cloths as the robot moves from the station to the desired cleaning spot. The robot lifts the cloths as it moves to the cleaning spot. And of course, the ability to clean along baseboards elevates this model to a new level of wet cleaning, matching flagship models from Dreame, Roborock, and other brands.
