Dreame Bot X20 Pro Plus: A NEW LEVEL of wet cleaning and a highly autonomous station

The new Dreame Bot X20 Pro Plus is undoubtedly the most feature-packed robot vacuum of 2023. This device features a fully autonomous station, artificial intelligence for precise obstacle avoidance, a wide range of app-based features, and, most importantly, a unique cleaning module design that allows it to thoroughly clean areas right up to baseboards and furniture. For such a comprehensive suite of advanced features, you'll have to pay between $1,000 and $1,150 (US$1,075-$1,240). Is this robot worth the money, what else is it capable of, and how well does the Dreame Bot X20 Pro Plus perform at its core function? So, let's get started!
Regionalism
The first thing you should know about the Dreame Bot X20 Pro Plus is that this model is intended for the Chinese market. Therefore, you won't be able to use it outside of China. The app is region-locked.
At the time of writing, it can be bypassed on both iOS and Android smartphones. The seller, whose link I provided at the end of the review, explains in detail how to bypass the regional lock. I didn't describe the method in detail for the simple reason that the brand's representatives wouldn't take control of it and, consequently, deprive us of this bypass option. Basically, there's a lot of information online about bypassing the lock, and the basic methods still work.
A global version of this model will be released soon, with official sales on the market. No bypasses will be required for operation, but the global version will be significantly more expensive, and there's no clear release date. Therefore, it's up to you to decide whether to order the Chinese version or wait for the global version. For example, I decided to take the risk.

Appearance
Now let's take a look at the Dreame Bot X20 Pro Plus's design. Let's start with the robot vacuum itself. It's black with gold accents. It looks very stylish. The plastic itself is matte and stain-resistant. Unfortunately, the body is still round. It's about 103 mm high.
A wall sensor is mounted on the right bumper. An active camera is located in the front for recognizing objects on the floor and remotely monitoring the home.
3D sensors and LED backlighting are located on both sides of the camera, allowing the robot to accurately recognize objects in complete darkness. The backlighting turns on automatically.
The control panel has three mechanical buttons. Navigation is handled by a lidar sensor, which has a spring-loaded cover.
The top cover is completely removable and held in place by magnets. Underneath is a 350 ml dust container. The filtration system consists of a mesh filter and a HEPA filter. The dust container and HEPA filter have been slightly modified compared to the Dreame Bot X10 Pro. Therefore, these components are not interchangeable between the robots. The dust container and filter are washable with water. The water tank is hidden inside the robot and is automatically filled with water at the station. The capacity of the tank is 80 ml.
There are four fall protection sensors, plus a carpet sensor. The side brush is quick-release, and the center brush unit is floating. The turbo brush has bristles and petals, and can be removed on both sides to remove hair and fur.
If necessary, you can purchase an additional silicone turbo brush, which makes it easier to clean hair and fur.
List of robot models from which you can get this brush:
- Dreame Bot L10s Ultra
- Dreame Bot L10 Ultra
- Dreame Bot L10s Pro
- Dreame Bot D10s
- Dreame Bot D10s Pro
- Dreame Bot D10s Plus
The robot comes with napkin holders. The holders are equipped with magnets, and the napkins are held in place with Velcro. It's worth noting that the Dreame Bot X20 Pro can automatically pick up the napkins when it enters carpeted areas. This is a plus.
And here's how the robot's main feature works—the so-called retractable cleaning cloth holder. The arm extends to the right, allowing the cleaning cloth to extend beyond the robot's body. There's no blind spot between the edge of the robot and the baseboard. A truly clever solution, long awaited! Dreame engineers, as always, are one step ahead of the rest!
The station, which already seemed to be fully functional, has received another upgrade. Now, in addition to self-cleaning the dust bin and washing the cloths and drying them with warm air, it also heats the water for washing the cloths. Rinsing with hot water should improve the cleaning performance of the cloths. Conveniently, the ramp for the robot to enter and the tray for washing the cloths are removable. The waste bag remains located in the center behind the lid.
The water tanks have increased capacity. The dirty water tank has been increased to 4 liters, and the clean water tank to 4.5 liters. A silver-based disinfection module is installed inside the clean water tank. This is a plus. The cleaning tool and a 450 ml detergent cartridge are conveniently stored under the lid between the tanks. When washing cloths, detergent is automatically mixed into the clean water, which is very convenient.
Another important point: the station itself is equipped with magnetized pins. These allow the Dreame Bot X20 Pro Plus to detach the cleaning cloth holders from the station when needed. This allows the robot to leave the station for dry cleaning only, without the cleaning cloths, completely eliminating any contact between wet cleaning cloths and the carpet. A unique and highly intelligent solution.
As a reminder, the station is equipped with fittings for connecting to the sewer and water supply. They are hidden behind the cover. I described in detail how to connect the robot to the sewer and water supply in my Dreame Bot X10 Pro review.
The station is the same, so I won't repeat myself. I'll just note that I've now laid out the utilities more neatly: I installed a surface-mounted outlet next to the station, which I simply glued to the wall tile, and I also hid the hoses in the baseboard, one of which is connected to the water supply via the included pass-through elbow, and the other is connected to the trap under the sink. So, I didn't initially plan for the station during the renovation, but that didn't stop me from doing everything neatly once the renovation was complete. You can take this idea into consideration.
Ultimately, we see that a number of improvements have been made that have increased the robot's efficiency and autonomy. In my opinion, the only thing left to do is make the body D-shaped so that the robot can fully sweep into corners. I believe this will be the next breakthrough in the Dreame line.

Of the specifications, the only important thing to highlight is the claimed high suction power, which will be verified in tests. The robot has become even more powerful! The other parameters are in line with similar models and are no different from its predecessor, the Dreame Bot X10 Pro. For those interested, the height of the station with the lid raised is 87.5 cm.
Functional capabilities
Speaking of features, the Dreame Bot X20 Pro Plus is controlled via the Dreamehome app. I mentioned regional compatibility at the beginning of the review. I'll just note that the app itself is in Russian, and the interface has been slightly updated, making everything even more user-friendly and intuitive. However, the robot only speaks Chinese. This is important to keep in mind.
Key features of Dreame Bot X20 Pro Plus:
- Self-cleaning.
- Rinse wipes with hot water (58°C).
- Drying napkins with hot air.
- Automatic addition of detergent.
- Lifting napkins on the carpet.
- Recognizing objects on the floor.
- Camera illumination in low light conditions.
- Remote home monitoring via smartphone.
- Saving multiple cleaning maps in memory.
- 3D map of the room.
- Automatic zoning of premises into rooms.
- Selecting areas and rooms for cleaning.
- Virtual walls and no-go zones (and for wet cleaning mode).
- Suction power adjustment.
- Setting the frequency of rinsing wipes (by area, by zones).
- User mode.
- Ultimate mode.

- Setting up cleaning according to a schedule.
- Automatic power increase on carpet.
- Carpet cleaning in wet cleaning mode.
- Automatic removal of napkin holders at the station.
- Proprietary built-in voice assistant.
- Yandex.Alice support.
There are numerous options for customizing cleaning parameters. It's worth noting that the proprietary voice assistant only understands commands in Chinese, unfortunately. Otherwise, it's a very interesting solution. I hope we'll be able to test this feature in the global version of the robot. Another new feature is the Ultimate mode, which automatically adjusts the cleaning pattern based on the level of dirt on the floor, activating a second cleaning or automatically adjusting the power level and the wetness of the cleaning pads.
I'll also demonstrate the remote home monitoring feature via smartphone. Entering your chosen password activates the camera, which transmits real-time images to your smartphone screen.
The image quality is high. You can either control the robot manually or specify a location on the map where you want it to go automatically. You can also take photos, which will be saved in a separate folder, and send voice messages through the robot's speaker. Another useful feature is the ability to direct the robot to a specific location, where it will rotate in one spot and automatically take photos of the room from all sides. This is called guard mode. Very convenient. The only issue is that the image streaming is a bit slow because the Dreame Bot X20 Pro Plus operates through Chinese servers. It's not critical, but the difference compared to global robots is noticeable.
I should also note that at the time of writing, the Dreame Bot X20 Pro Plus doesn't offer the option to install the Creative Voice Pack or set the Russian language. The previous Dreame Bot X10 Pro still supports these features.
Testing
A detailed video review of the Dreame Bot X20 Pro Plus, including all tests, has already been prepared and published on the channel:
Navigation
And finally, let's move on to the tests. First, we'll test the Dreame Bot X20 Pro Plus's navigation in a room with obstacles. The robot vacuum first moves around the perimeter of the room, then cleans the entire accessible area in a serpentine pattern. It detected the feet of the dryer and carefully navigated around them. It also swept around the box and chair legs separately, then returned to the station. The test was successful.
Speaking of navigation within the house, the robot vacuum cleans room by room, following the perimeter, then in a serpentine pattern. After each cleaned area, as I found, it returns to the station and rinses the cloths, then resumes cleaning from where it left off. There were no uncleaned areas left; this model has excellent navigation!
Object recognition
Regarding the floor object recognition system, it remains unchanged from its predecessor. The robot vacuum successfully recognized five out of six objects. It only encountered a pet surprise trap.
The Dreame Bot X20 Pro Plus performs worse when it comes to recognizing objects in complete darkness.
This time, in addition to the animal's surprise, it chewed a sock and slightly moved the bathroom scale, despite correctly marking it on the map. Therefore, compared to similar systems, Dreame has one of the most accurate object recognition systems, but it's still not perfect. In any case, the robot vacuum very carefully avoids objects and barely touches furniture, but Dreame's engineers still have some work to do!
Suction power
The suction power was a pleasant surprise. The Dreame Bot X20 Pro Plus was able to easily vacuum up debris from even a 10mm gap. This is definitely a very powerful robot vacuum.
Dry cleaning
The collection performance of various types of debris on laminate floors is good. It only retains a small amount of debris in corners, where round robot vacuums can't reach. Even in corners, it cleaned slightly better than most other round robot vacuums. Hair and pet hair got caught in the center brush, but all the debris was collected in the dust bin. Test passed!
Carpet cleaning
The Dreame Bot X20 Pro Plus does a good job of cleaning carpets. It cleans carpets very well, thanks to its high power, floating turbo brush module, and bristle-petal brush.
Wet cleaning and carpets
When it comes to wet cleaning on carpeted floors, you can choose from three different robot behaviors. The first is to automatically lift the cleaning cloths when entering carpets, allowing the robot vacuum to simultaneously vacuum and mop the floor, leaving the carpets dry and clean.
The second option is to enable the automatic carpet avoidance feature in wet cleaning mode. And the third mode is unique. The robot vacuum first performs dry and wet cleaning of hard floors, then returns to the base, automatically detaches the cleaning pads, and returns to the cleaning process, having vacuumed the carpets without the pads. This is especially useful for high- and medium-pile carpets, as it completely eliminates any contact between the pad and the carpet if necessary.
The idea is very cool. Not only does it completely eliminate contact between wet wipes and carpets, but it's also a more reliable solution than simply lifting the wipes on carpets. A so-called lift can wear out faster if used frequently.
Wiping off dirt
This robot vacuum cleaner does a great job of removing dirt. And you can see that the Dreame Bot X20 Pro Plus's retractable cleaning cloth thoroughly removes dirt right up to the baseboard. There's still a blind spot, but it's only in the corners, where the round cleaning cloth can't reach. Nevertheless, this is the best result to date! No streaks or dirt marks are left behind; the test was passed successfully!
Removing difficult stains
However, the Dreame Bot X20 Pro Plus failed to remove tough stains. It was able to remove coffee stains, but tough, dried-on sauce stains proved beyond its capabilities.
The dirt removal performance is inferior to its closest competitors from Roborock, Ecovacs, and Hobot. However, for home use, I believe the wet cleaning feature is more than sufficient. However, Dreame's engineers still have some work to do in future flagship models.
Rinsing quality of wipes
Now, I'd like to test the effectiveness of the station itself. Let's start with the rinsing quality of the wipes. In everyday life, after cleaning the floor of dirt, the wipes are in a terrible state. And after rinsing, I can say they are actually clean. A minimal amount of dirt is removed under the pressure of warm water. That's a plus!
But after tough stains, the wipes don't wash out very well. Then again, such tough stains are only easily removed by a washing machine with detergent. So, I think the heated water feature is a better solution, which slightly, but still improves the cleaning performance of the wipes.
Cleaning the station itself is easy. Just remove the wipe tray and the robot entry ramp. Rinse with water in the sink and return it. The station is clean!
Self-cleaning quality
The self-cleaning performance of the dust bin is good. I ran the robot vacuum in a room with a lot of debris. It cleaned everything up, and we saw that the dust bin was completely full. We returned the robot vacuum to the docking station and saw that the dust bin was almost clean after self-cleaning. One clump of hair stuck to the curtain, but that was probably an isolated incident.
I checked the dust bin several times during use, and it always empties completely. I didn't bother searching for the perfect moment. So, I can confidently say that self-cleaning is well implemented in this model!
Obstacle clearance
The Dreame Bot X20 Pro Plus easily navigates 2 cm high thresholds, lifting up napkins in the process. That's a plus!
Driving on black surfaces
It's also not afraid of black surfaces, easily driving on completely black carpet. This is another advantage of the robot!
Noise level
As for the noise level, it ranges from 57 to 73 dB. The noise level is quite standard for this model, considering its high suction power.
Personal opinion
The Dreame Bot X20 Pro Plus has been thoroughly reviewed and tested. According to our rating system, it scored 207 points and of course to lead Overall rating of tested robotic vacuum cleaners, pushing aside his predecessor Dreame Bot X10 ProPlease note that I deducted a full 10 points for regional issues, so the global version will have an even higher score. I'll share my personal opinion of the robot.
I liked the following:
- A retractable cloth allows the robot to thoroughly clean areas along baseboards and furniture.
- The presence of a system for recognizing objects on the floor, which does not go blind in the dark.
- Remote home monitoring by connecting to the robot's camera via a smartphone.
- Combined station for self-cleaning, rinsing and drying of wipes.
- Effective drying of napkins with hot air.
- Washing napkins with hot water.
- Automatic removal of napkin holders at the station for complete dry cleaning.
- Automatic supply of detergent when rinsing wipes.
- Increased capacity of water tanks.
- An optional module for connection to utility networks is available.
- High-quality self-cleaning and rinsing of wipes.
- Ultimate mode, thanks to which the robot independently selects the cleaning algorithm.
- High-quality dry and wet cleaning on any surface.
- Automatic lifting of napkins when driving onto carpets.
- Convenient maintenance of the robot and station.
- A large number of functions for flexible adjustment of cleaning parameters.
- Good cross-country ability.
- The robot vacuum cleaner is not afraid of black floor coverings.
- Yandex.Alice support.
- Stylish design.
- High-quality assembly and high brand authority.
There are also some disadvantages, the main ones being:
- The robot vacuum cleaner is designed for the Chinese market, and therefore has a regional lock that must be bypassed.
- The object recognition system requires improvement.
- Doesn't sweep out debris in the corners.
- Not capable of removing difficult stains.
- Full service and warranty support from the manufacturers are not provided. Again, this is because this version is for the Chinese market.
- The built-in voice assistant only understands phrases in Chinese.
- There is no option to set the Russian language for voice notifications.
- Large station dimensions.
- Image transmission is delayed due to work through Chinese servers.
Ultimately, I can say that at the time of writing, the Dreame Bot X20 Pro Plus is the best robot vacuum cleaner in terms of functionality and wet mopping. Yes, there are plenty of criticisms, but the perfect robot vacuum doesn't yet exist! There are models with better floor cleaning, corner sweeping capabilities, or even official sales. But no one has yet managed to combine so many advanced features and design solutions in a single robot as the Dreame Bot X20 Pro Plus. Therefore, this model definitely deserves attention, and those who aren't afraid of bypassing regional blocking, which is the main problem, in my opinion, should definitely consider purchasing this robot vacuum. It's maximally autonomous, maximally efficient, and, just as importantly, it comes from a proven brand.
The global version, which everyone is eagerly awaiting, will be much preferable, but I'm sure the price will be completely different. So, it's time to decide what's more important: easy-to-use controls without the hassle, or the ability to use the robot now and even save money. I chose the latter.
On that note, I'd like to end this review. If you have any questions, please ask them in the comments. Happy shopping. Bye!

What's the difference between the x20 pro and x20 pro plus?
It seems that the Pro does not have a compartment for detergent and does not have a module for disinfecting water in the clean water tank.
