Dreame R10: More affordable, same design

Dreame R10Dreame R10

The Dreame R10 is another new product for 2023, an affordable upright vacuum cleaner. Price ranges from $180-210 to $200-230. For this price, you'll get a cordless vacuum cleaner with a 350W motor capable of delivering up to 120 AW of suction power. All essential cleaning attachments are included. The main attachment illuminates the cleaning area, and the vacuum cleaner itself is finished in a very stylish color, creating a premium feel. I thoroughly tested the Dreame R10 and then expressed my opinion on whether this upright vacuum is worth buying. So, let's get started!

The package is standard! Ideally, it would also include a replaceable soft-bristled roller for cleaning hard floors, like the Dreame R10 Pro. But overall, considering the price, the lack of a replaceable roller is justified.

Appearance

Let's take a look at the Dreame R10 upright vacuum cleaner. Let's start with the main unit. The color scheme is interesting. Instead of the usual graphite body, we see a combination of ivory and gold, somewhat reminiscent of Dreame P10 Pro, released earlier. It looks very stylish! The matte finish doesn't show up easily.

The vacuum cleaner is turned on and off by pressing a trigger button. A display was omitted to reduce the cost. A lock button is located on the end of the vacuum cleaner, along with a mechanical mode selector. There are only three power levels. Automatic power increase for detecting dirt or carpets is not provided. The battery has charge level indicators. The battery itself is removable, which is a plus. A charging port is located on the back of the handle.

The dust container is also removable. The main unit contains a pre-motor HEPA filter and a sponge filter in the exhaust vents. The dust container can be emptied in two ways: either by pressing a button on the housing that opens the bottom, or by shaking it out after removing the filtration system, which consists of a fabric filter, a cyclone, and a mesh. This makes for a five-stage air filtration system.

Let's move on to an overview of the included attachments. The main attachment is identical to the one included with the larger Dreame R10 Pro. It features a front-mounted light. The roller lock is easily removed by hand. The roller itself is equipped with short, stiff bristles, which are better for cleaning carpets. Behind the roller is a detangling comb for removing hair and pet hair.

The upholstery cleaning tool features a turbo brush with silicone paddles. The latch can be removed with a flat-head screwdriver or coin. The retractable bristle nozzle is the same as previous models. The crevice tool is a new design, featuring a retractable flexible section, allowing you to reach tight, narrow spaces to collect debris.

Overall, this vacuum cleaner is well-made, and there are no major issues with the assembly. The only drawback is that it doesn't have a vertical storage option outside the holder, unlike other upright vacuums in the Dreame line.

Technical specifications

The main characteristics of the Dreame R10, as stated by the manufacturer:

  • Power consumption 350 W.
  • Suction power up to 120 AW.
  • Li-Ion battery 2500 mAh.
  • Dust collector 600 ml.
  • Operating time up to 60 min.
  • Noise level 67.5-74.5 dB.
  • Weight when fully assembled: 2.7 kg.

We see that the motor power and suction force are lower than those of older models, which, again, is due to the lower price. I'll definitely test how powerful this upright vacuum really is in my tests.

I personally measured the noise level with a sound level meter. It ranged from 67.5 to 74.5 dB, which is below average and closely related to the reduced engine power.

As for weight, the main unit weighs 1,651 grams, the extension tube weighs 280 grams, and the main nozzle with the carpet roller weighs 774 grams. The complete vacuum weighs 2,705 grams. This is a fairly standard weight for an upright vacuum. The center of gravity is strategically positioned low, preventing hand fatigue during use.

Testing

A detailed video review of the Dreame R10, including all tests, has already been prepared and published on the channel:

And finally, let's move on to the tests. First, let's check the Dreame R10's battery life in Turbo mode with the main attachment attached. It managed 8 minutes and 34 seconds of runtime, which is almost 2 minutes shorter than the R10 Pro and 5 minutes shorter than the brand's flagship models. The runtime isn't particularly long, unlike most budget and mid-range models. This is what sets them apart from premium vertical vacuum cleaners with their longer batteries.

Suction power

As for suction power, the Dreame R10 was able to suck up debris from crevices as deep as 4 and 6 mm at its minimum setting. And in Medium and Turbo modes, it easily sucks up debris from as small as 10 mm. So, in reality, there are no complaints about its power, and it's more than sufficient for everyday use.

Collecting debris on laminate flooring

Now let's test how well the Dreame R10 picks up floor debris. I scattered various types of debris on the laminate flooring: hair, fur, grains, and other small household debris. This machine performed well. It's important to note that it has no trouble picking up debris along baseboards and in corners. It picks everything up thoroughly.

Carpet cleaning

The same debris was scattered on the carpet, and the Dreame R10 did an equally good job, thoroughly cleaning the carpet. The carpet roller was clean, with no hair or fur tangled in it.

Using additional attachments

It's also worth noting that the complete kit allows you to clean a sofa, areas beyond the reach of the main nozzle, and even car interiors. Overall, this vacuum cleaner is suitable for a variety of applications.

Cleaning the dust collector

Finally, I'll tell you how to clean the dust bin. Press the button, and all the debris falls out through the bottom. Hair and fur can get stuck in the bin. In this case, you can completely remove the dust bin, remove the filtration system, and shake out the remaining debris. Very convenient.

Personal opinion

The Dreame R10 upright vacuum cleaner was thoroughly reviewed and tested. Like all Dreame products, it left a largely positive impression. Based on my experience with it and testing it, I can highlight the following pros and cons.

I liked the following:

  1. High-quality waste collection on any surface.
  2. Illumination of the cleaning area.
  3. Removable battery.
  4. Good filtration system.
  5. Low noise level.
  6. Stylish design.
  7. Ergonomic design.
  8. Very high quality assembly.
  9. Optimal price.
  10. Availability of warranty and service.

Regarding shortcomings, the only more or less significant one is the reduced battery life. There are four other minor gripes: there's no vertical parking feature outside the wall mount, no wireless charging on the wall mount, no replacement nozzle for hard surfaces, and no display on the body. But these are more nitpicks than real drawbacks. Again, the simplified design is due to the reduced cost of the model.

Overall, considering the fact that the Dreame R10 costs about 15% less than the older model R10 ProWhile there's virtually no difference in cleaning performance or ease of use, I think this model is definitely worth considering. Moreover, there aren't many worthy competitors on the market for under $200 that offer comparable build quality and are from a trusted brand. So, for the price, the Dreame R10 is definitely one of the best.

On that note, I'd like to end this review. If you have any questions, please ask them in the comments. Happy shopping, everyone. Bye!
