Atvel SmartGyro R80: High-precision gyro navigation and advanced wet cleaning

Hello readers! I received the Atvel SmartGyro R80 robot vacuum for review. Priced between $170 and $200, this model features a gyroscope for navigation, is suitable for both dry and wet cleaning, is controlled via an app and remote control, and boasts several interesting features that enhance cleaning performance. Below, I'll take a detailed look at and test the Atvel SmartGyro R80, after which I'll share my opinion on whether it's worth buying. So, let's get started!
Equipment
In addition to the robot vacuum cleaner itself, the delivery package includes:
- Charging base.
- Power adapter.
- Combined water and waste container with a microfiber cloth installed.
- Spare napkin.
- Remote control.
- Operating instructions translated into Russian.
- Two spare side brushes.
- Spare HEPA filter.
- Brush for cleaning the dust collector.
- Tool for cleaning the central brush.
The kit is basically complete, with all the necessary accessories for the robot's first use. The only thing missing, in my opinion, is a magnetic strip to restrict its movement.
Appearance
Let's take a closer look at the Atvel SmartGyro R80. It's round and gray. The plastic is glossy, with a beautiful coating that shimmers in the sunlight. The body is 8 cm tall.
A soft-touch mechanical bumper is installed at the front. On the top cover, there's only one mechanical control button, which starts and stops the cleaning process. The power switch is located on the side.
The dust container is removable from the rear. It holds up to 500 ml of dry waste. A protective flap inside prevents accidental spillage when the container is removed. The filtration system includes a mesh and HEPA filter.
A combined water and waste container can be installed in place of the dust collector. The cloth is attached to the bottom with Velcro and elastic bands on the sides.
Water flows through four dispenser holes onto the cloth. Inside, we see a pump for electronically regulating the water flow, which is a plus. The tank itself holds up to 230 ml of water.
The dust collector in the combined container holds up to 220 ml of dry waste. It also features a protective curtain and a dual filtration system.
Let's take a look at the Atvel SmartGyro R80's underside. It features three fall protection sensors and two quick-release side brushes.
The central brush has bristles and petals, and can be disassembled on one side to remove tangled hair and fur.
Overall, the robot vacuum's build quality is above average. No complaints whatsoever.
Technical specifications
The main characteristics of the Atvel SmartGyro R80, as declared by the manufacturer:
- Li-Ion battery 2600 mAh.
- Suction power up to 2400 Pa.
- Operating time up to 120 min.
- Cleaning area up to 250 sq.m.
- Dust collector capacity is 500 ml.
- The volume of the combined container is 230+220 ml.
- Passability of obstacles up to 15 mm.
- Dimensions: 335*335*80 mm.
It's worth noting here that the cleaning area is most likely indicated for ideal conditions, a rectangular room without obstacles. In reality, robotic vacuum cleaners with a gyroscope They can effectively clean areas up to 80 square meters, regardless of the gyroscope installed. Otherwise, the specifications are quite standard.
Functional capabilities
Let's move on to a review of the Atvel SmartGyro R80's features. As mentioned earlier, the robot vacuum is controlled via a proprietary mobile app and remote control. Let's first review the app's functionality. The robot connects quickly to the network, and we encountered no issues.
The main working panel displays the last map built; the robot builds it in real time, but does not save it in memory.
In the settings section, you can change the robot's name, set up a cleaning schedule by selecting the time, days of the week, operating mode, suction power, and even the water flow level. You can also view the cleaning log, set a quiet time, enable/disable voice notifications, update the firmware if necessary, and enable the robot vacuum's sound detection feature.
Let's return to the main control panel. Here you can activate manual control, select one of 7 operating modes, adjust the suction power, and the water flow rate. Speaking of operating modes, in automatic mode, the robot cleans the entire area in a serpentine pattern, then switches to perimeter sweeping, and then begins moving randomly until the battery is depleted, after which it automatically returns to the base to charge. In my opinion, it's better to use the gyro mode, in which the robot vacuum cleaner sweeps in a serpentine pattern, then around the perimeter, and then immediately returns to the base. There's essentially no difference in cleaning quality, but it saves time.
The floor cleaning mode is also worth mentioning. In this mode, the robot vacuum cleaner moves back and forth, thoroughly scrubbing away dirt from the floor. This mode is useful for those looking for a robot with good wet cleaning performance.
As for the remote control, it has duplicated functions such as setting up a cleaning schedule, forced return to the charging base, manual control, start/pause, selecting a cleaning mode, setting the current time and the degree of wetting of the cloth, as well as adjusting the suction power.
In principle, the Atvel SmartGyro R80 has all the essential features of a gyroscopic robot. Its capabilities are sufficient for automatically maintaining cleanliness in your home. It's also important to note that this robot vacuum automatically increases suction power when it encounters carpets, which is a plus.
Testing
A detailed video review with all the tests has already been prepared and published on the channel. I recommend watching it:
Navigation
First, let's test the Atvel SmartGyro R80's navigation in a room with obstacles. The robot was launched in "Gyro" mode. It first traversed the entire accessible area in a serpentine pattern, then moved around the perimeter and automatically returned to the base. It didn't get stuck around the chair legs and the box, but it didn't get stuck on the dryer's legs. Overall, the navigation was standard for a robot vacuum cleaner with a gyroscope.
As for navigation within the house, the situation is similar: first, it cleans in a serpentine pattern, then it sweeps the perimeter. But it's important to note that the mapping accuracy is high, as for a gyroscope-based robot. And the cleaning speed is high. And most importantly, there were no uncleaned areas left. This test was passed successfully.
Suction power
The suction power is quite standard. The Atvel SmartGyro R80 was able to suck up debris from a 2 mm deep gap, which is sufficient for automatically maintaining a clean home.
Dry cleaning of laminate flooring
Let's test the robot's dry cleaning performance. The laminate flooring was littered with hair, pet hair, small debris, cat food, litter, and ground coffee in the corners to simulate dust. The Atvel SmartGyro R80 managed to completely pick up the debris and even clean the corners, despite its round shape.
The dry cleaning performance is very high. Hair and pet hair were caught on the center and side brushes, but the bulk of the debris was collected in the dust bin. Test passed!
Cleaning the carpet
A similar situation occurred with carpet cleaning. The same debris was scattered on the carpet, and the robot vacuum cleaned it thoroughly. A small amount of hair remained, but that's because the robot only passed over the area once. A double pass would have definitely left nothing behind.
Wet cleaning
The quality of the removal of dried-on dirt is also excellent. The stand is practically clean, leaving only a small strip along the baseboard, which robotic vacuum cleaners are unable to clean due to their design.
Here's how the Atvel SmartGyro R80 performs on tiles and laminate flooring. It leaves an even mark and delivers a generous amount of water to the floor at maximum power. The Atvel SmartGyro R80 truly delivers excellent wet cleaning performance.
Obstacle clearance
The robot can cross thresholds up to 15 mm high, but it can't overcome 20 mm, which isn't ideal. Well, the manufacturer claims it can handle up to 15 mm.
Driving on dark surfaces
But the Atvel SmartGyro R80 is not afraid of dark surfaces and easily passes through a black carpet, which is a plus.
Noise level
Finally, we measured the robot's noise level in different modes. In floor polishing mode, the noise level is between 54-57 dB. At minimum suction power, the noise level rises to 62-64 dB, in standard mode it reaches 66 dB, and at maximum power, the peak was 72 dB. Yes, the noise level is slightly above average, despite the standard suction power. This is important to keep in mind.
Personal opinion
The Atvel SmartGyro R80 has been thoroughly reviewed and tested. our evaluation system he managed to gain 52 out of 100 points and for a gyroscopic robot this is an excellent result.
Overall rating of robot vacuum cleaners tested on robovac.washerhouse.com: https://robovac.washerhouse.com/en/rejtingi/robovac-obshhij-rejting-robotov-pylesosov-robo.html.
I'll share my personal opinion about this model. I liked the following:
- Simultaneous dry and wet cleaning.
- Good navigation.
- High quality cleaning.
- Control via app and remote control.
- Advanced wet cleaning mode.
- Good equipment.
- Good build quality.
- The robot is not afraid of dark surfaces.
- Automatic power increase on carpets.
Regarding the shortcomings, the following comments were identified:
- Increased noise level during operation.
- The robot is not able to overcome 2 cm thresholds.
- There is no possibility to limit cleaning zones.
In principle, the downsides aren't that significant, and the Atvel SmartGyro R80's advantages outweigh its drawbacks. So, I definitely recommend this robot vacuum if you're considering a small space cleaner under $200. Yes, for that price, you can already make a choice. robot with a camera for navigation and advanced map-based features, but this model has a well-implemented wet cleaning function, plus a warranty and service support. It's up to you to decide what's most important to you.
On that note, I'd like to end this review. If you have any questions, please ask them in the comments. Happy shopping, everyone. Bye!

Hello! I'm struggling to choose between the Atvel SmartGyro R80 and the Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop SKV4093GL.
What would you advise?
Thank you
Well, the Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop SKV4093GL has better navigation and zoning, including the ability to set no-go zones and select rooms to clean. The Atvel has better wet cleaning, slightly better build quality, and includes more accessories. What is the size of your home and how many rooms are there?
I really liked this robot vacuum cleaner. I bought it, but I can't figure out how to set it up on the remote control. The robot has a mind of its own. It turns on when it wants. I can't figure out how to reset the remote control. If you can, please tell me how to set it up. I wanted to be able to just start it without having to choose days of the week or times.
Hello! I need a robot vacuum cleaner with a floor cleaning height of up to 8 cm. My house is 106 sq m and there is no Wi-Fi, except on my mobile phone. I want it to clean while I'm away and be programmed by days of the week. There are no carpets in the house. We also don't have any pets. I've settled on the Atvel SmartGyro R80 for now, but I'm concerned about its 2600 mAh Li-Ion battery. Isn't that enough for a 106 sq m robot? If I understand correctly, it doesn't remember where the battery ran out and won't start from the same spot after recharging. No-go zones are also not relevant to me. I need a solid, no-frills vacuum cleaner. Price up to 40 thousand.
Hello! Yes, the battery is a bit weak for a 106 square meter area. For that size of space, you need a robot vacuum with a camera for navigation. The Dreame F9 is an option, but it requires a Wi-Fi connection to set everything up. I haven't seen anything with a remote control (which allows you to schedule cleaning), camera navigation, and a cleaning height of up to 8 cm. Some of these requirements would have to be compromised.
Hello! Please help me choose between the iBoto smart c820wu or the Atvel SmartGyro R80. I have a three-room apartment (65 sq. m.), laminate flooring, and a lazy dog. I need a higher-quality, more reliable vacuum cleaner, as well as one that performs better in both dry and wet cleaning. Thank you.
Good afternoon!
First of all, thank you for your efforts in such detailed reviews.
So far I have settled on two options.
Please advise me to choose
Dreame D9 or Atvel SmartGyro R80..
The area is 80 sq. m. The dog is short-haired. The thresholds between rooms are no more than 4 mm. Laminate and tiles. No carpets.
Thanks in advance for your help in choosing!
Hello! These are completely different robots. For a space like this, I'd still consider a robot with a lidar sensor. It all depends on your budget.
Good afternoon!
I would be grateful if you could recommend a robot with a dry and wet cleaning leader.
Budget 20-22.
Thank you!!
Good afternoon. Which vacuum cleaner is better: the Roomba i3 or this one? I'll be using it mostly on carpet. Wet cleaning is a plus, but not a significant one. Which one, in your opinion, is better for carpet? And is it true that hair and fur get tangled less in the Irobot's brushes because they're silicone?
iRobot is really better at cleaning carpets.
Good afternoon,
choose between
Atvel SmartGyro R80,
Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop SKV4093GL,
iRobot Roomba 698.
5-room apartment, 100 square meters, complex geometry. There are carpets. There is a cat.
Dry cleaning of carpets and linoleum to remove dust, hair, and fur is most important. Wet cleaning is less important (there's no such thing in Roomba).
What do you recommend?
Hello! Of all the robots you listed, only the Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum-Mop SKV4093GL is barely capable of cleaning, and even then, only if the battery lasts. Gyroscopic robots can't effectively clean 100 square meters. I recommend the Dreame F9 or iLIFE A10s.
Thanks for the answer.
In continuation, please tell me:
Am I correct in understanding that the Dreame F9, which you recommended, will differ from the SKV4093GL only in that it has a more capacious battery, or does it have other advantages?
It's even a little more powerful in reality)
Hello. Could you please tell me if the Atvel SmartGyro R80 is suitable for cleaning a 45 sq m apartment, given that I have wenge-colored laminate flooring (very dark), a cat that sheds, and carpets. I'm particularly concerned about the dark floor, as I've seen in other reviews that this model doesn't clean dark floors. Thank you in advance.
Good afternoon! Thank you for your detailed reviews; it's become a little clearer how robot vacuum cleaners differ. I was recommended the Atvel R80, but I'm still unsure. Could you please advise whether I should go with the Atvel R80 or which robot vacuum cleaner would be better for me? My area isn't large, about 40 square meters, but the geometry is very complex. There are no pets, but there is a lot of long hair and very uneven dark parquet. It would be great if it also did wet cleaning, at least at a medium level, and didn't jam the curtains. My budget is up to 30,000 rubles. I would also like a user-friendly app in Russian so I can control the vacuum cleaner through it. Thanks in advance!
Good afternoon.
Thank you for your reviews, everything is presented very concisely and to the point.
I'm looking for a vacuum cleaner for a 95m2 apartment, which, minus furniture, sofas, etc., is about 80m2.
There are no pets, but we have a 5-year-old child. There is only one carpet. The floor is level everywhere. The apartment's geometry is simple. Wet cleaning and its quality are important.
I'm leaning towards the Atvel R80. Will it handle it? Or can you recommend something better?
Thank you!
Hello. Will a magnetic strip from another manufacturer be compatible with the Atvel R80 robot vacuum? Will the vacuum detect it and not go beyond the specified range?
Hello! Which robot would you recommend for cleaning 200 m2? There's pet hair, but no carpets.
Ecovacs Deebot OZMO T9 AIVI. Its brushes are better at removing hair and pet hair, plus it has good navigation, a powerful battery, and high suction power.
I've been watching your reviews on YouTube. Thank you. Very knowledgeable and professional. What do you recommend? I'm torn between the D9 and the Atvel R80. The price is practically the same now, and my apartment is 40 sq. m. Light-colored laminate. I'm struggling with this; I like both, but my wife prefers the Atvel for its appearance. Maybe you could offer some advice based on your experience.
Hello! For this kind of space, you could definitely use an Atvel. Wet cleaning would definitely be better.
Hello! I'm looking to give my mom a robot vacuum cleaner, but I can't decide between three: the REDMOND RV-R650S WiFi, the Samsung VR05R5050WK, and the Atvel R80. My mom's main preferences are for it to create its own map, be large enough for three rooms (60 sq. m), and have good wet cleaning. I was also considering the Tefal X-plorer Series 60, but its small water tank is a concern. I'd be grateful if you could help me choose, so I can give my mom an unforgettable gift. Thank you!
Hello! Of these four, Atvel is definitely the one!
Hello! Could you please tell me if this vacuum cleaner can handle the hair of three cats and a dog in a 50 square meter apartment?
Hello! I think so)
Hello, are there any reviews on the new firmware? I bought it 8 months ago and haven't updated it yet. Will the performance degrade after updating? I have version 2.0.01, and the latest version is 5.12.1417.
Why does hair accumulate on the roller brush of the atmel r80 vacuum cleaner and not in the dust container, although the suction is normal, what is the reason and how to fix it?
