Greetings to all readers of the site robovac.washerhouse.com! The latest new product we've received for a detailed review and test is the Clever&Clean HV-450 (5-in-1) handheld vacuum cleaner. Its unique feature is that it can not only vacuum but also mop floors with a special floor polisher attachment, which also features a suction port. The price of the vacuum cleaner ranges from $160 to $200, depending on the configuration. Let's take a look at the Clever&Clean HV-450's design, its features, and, most importantly, how it performs. Let's get started!

Equipment

Let's start with a review of the components. We're reviewing the vacuum cleaner in its full 5-in-1 configuration.

Box

In addition to the main unit, the box contains:

  1. Removable battery.
  2. Extension tube.
  3. Wall holder with fastening elements.
  4. Power adapter.
  5. Floor cleaning attachment.
  6. Microfiber cloths (4 pcs.).
  7. Crevice nozzle.
  8. Attachment with a brush.
  9. Main nozzle with a roller for cleaning floors.
  10. Mini electric brush for cleaning furniture.
  11. Spare filters.

The kit is complete, including everything you need to clean your home, apartment, and even your car. However, I personally miss a replacement bristle roller for the main carpet cleaning attachment. The soft roller is better suited for cleaning hard floors. But this is more of a quibble than a major drawback.

This kit will cost $200. The manufacturer also offers a slightly more limited kit without the floor mop attachment and, accordingly, without the cleaning cloths. This option will cost $180. There's also a minimal kit for spot cleaning furniture, hard-to-reach areas, and car interiors. Not only the floor polisher attachment has been removed from the kit, but also the main floor nozzle with extension tube. Without these accessories, the vacuum cleaner will cost $160. But in my opinion, this is a bit of a bummer. After all, we're primarily choosing a vacuum cleaner for cleaning floors. But perhaps some will be interested in this option.

Appearance

Now that we've sorted out the package contents, let's move on to a detailed review of the main unit and some of the attachments.

Let's start with the main unit. It's dark gray with black accents.

Main block

At first glance, the design is stylish. But the ergonomics immediately raised questions. The control buttons are positioned out of reach of the hand you use to operate a handheld vacuum. You have to use your other hand to turn the vacuum on and adjust the suction power, which isn't ideal. There's no trigger. The button on top turns the vacuum on and off.

The dust bin is emptied by pressing a button on the front. This is a very popular design, but for me, it's not the most convenient, although familiar. The power adapter port is located at the back, under the handle. The battery level indicators are also located there. The battery itself is easily removed for replacement. A big plus is that it's removable. You can buy an extra battery if you're cleaning a large area or the rooms are particularly dirty, so you can swap out the dead battery for a charged one mid-cleaning.

The exhaust filter is located at the end of the handle. The chrome cover looks like a mirror. In my opinion, it would be better to have control buttons here, right under the thumb. But precisely because this is the filter cover and the filter is located in this location, it's not technically possible to install buttons here.

On top, you can see a button. Pressing it and turning the flask clockwise releases the filtration system, exposing it to maintenance. It features cyclonic filtration, a mesh filter, a carbon-impregnated filter, and a HEPA filter. Combined with the blower filter installed in the handle, this creates a five-stage filtration system. Incidentally, the dust container itself holds 500 ml, which is the standard capacity of the flask.

It is also important to note that when the vacuum cleaner is turned on, the Clever&Clean logo on top starts to glow, which looks interesting.

We've sorted out the main unit, now let's look at the attachments.

The most interesting one for me, of course, is the floor mopping attachment, as I've never encountered one like it on a vacuum cleaner before. At first glance, this attachment looks similar to the cleaning unit of an electric mop. Glider A5 from Clever&Clean, which we tested earlier. But there are differences.

Floor polisher attachmentFloor polisher attachment

Floor polisher attachment

First, we see a suction port for collecting debris in floor polishing mode. Debris is directed into the dust collector in the main unit. Second, the microfiber pads are wetted by gravity from the main reservoir, similar to how robotic floor polishers work. EverybotWater is poured into the tank from the top through a filler neck with a sealed valve. The water tank holds 200 ml. The mopping attachment also features a front LED light for more thorough cleaning in low-light areas, such as behind or under furniture.

This attachment allows you to not only wash the floor but also vacuum it at the same time. That's a big plus.

Next, let's look at the main floor cleaning tool. It features a roller that effectively picks up debris from hard surfaces without tangling pet hair. All debris is immediately collected in the dust collector. The tool can be disassembled for cleaning the roller if hair gets tangled. A flat-head screwdriver or a coin can be used for this.

This mini electric brush with long bristles can be used for cleaning upholstery and mattresses. It also disassembles for easy maintenance.

But the crevice tool and soft-bristled brush are more suitable for localized cleaning of hard-to-reach places and cleaning the car interior.

Incidentally, the main unit weighs 1,526 g, the floor nozzle weighs 666 g, the mop nozzle weighs 887 g, and the extension tube weighs 265 g. When fully assembled with the floor nozzle, the vacuum weighs 2,457 g, and with the polisher nozzle, 2,678 g. These are standard weights for handheld vacuum cleaners. However, when configured with the crevice nozzle, the vacuum weighs 1,590 g.

Technical specifications

Now that we've covered the components, let's look at the main features of the Clever&Clean HV-450:

  1. Li-Ion battery with a capacity of 2200 mAh.
  2. Power consumption 350 W.
  3. Suction power from 7 to 25 kPa.
  4. Operating time from 10 to 45 minutes.
  5. The volume of the waste container is 500 ml.
  6. The volume of the water tank is 200 ml.
  7. Noise level up to 70 dB.
  8. Weight: 1.59-2.68 kg.

Overall, the specifications are quite standard. The suction power is claimed to be high, similar to Xiaomi's flagships, but the motor power is lower in figures. Most likely, the manufacturer is simply not overstating the actual figures, as the motor feels powerful.

Testing

We recommend watching our video for a detailed review and test:

Battery life

We tested the battery life with turbo mode enabled. We first fully charged the battery and attached the main attachment, which requires additional power because the roller is equipped with a separate motor.

The Clever&Clean HV-450 ran at maximum power for just over 12 minutes. This is a good result compared to many competitors.

Noise level

We also tested the noise level of this upright vacuum. In Eco mode, the noise level was 72 dB, in Standard mode 74.3 dB, and in Maximum mode, it reached 77.1 dB.

Noise levelNoise level

Noise level

Overall, the noise level is low, but at maximum power the engine starts to make a slight whistle, which I didn't really like.

Suction power

It would be much more interesting to check from what depth of cracks this handheld vacuum cleaner can suck out dust.

Power testPower test

Power test

It easily vacuums dust from crevices up to 6 mm deep. It was able to partially vacuum 8 mm deep, but 10 mm deep is practically impossible. This is largely due to the design of the roller, which impedes suction by pushing debris into the suction channel during cleaning. It's worth noting that with the mini electric brush and extension tube, the vacuum cleaner can vacuum dust from 10 mm deep, while the roller is less suitable for this purpose.

Dry cleaning quality

We tested how well this vacuum cleaner picks up not only fur and hair from the floor, but also everyday household debris like crumbs, dust, and grains.

Cleaning laminate flooringCleaning laminate flooring

Cleaning laminate flooring

The Clever&Clean HV-450 passed this test with flying colors. It picks up debris well along baseboards and in corners without scattering it.

After that, we increased the challenge and scattered all the debris on the carpet. Despite not having a special carpet cleaning brush, even a lint roller did the job. The carpet was thoroughly cleaned, and there was no debris left.

The roller is clean after testing, all debris is collected in the dust collector.

Quality of wet cleaning

And of course, we'll demonstrate how the Clever&Clean HV-450 cleans a floor with its special floor polishing attachment. The floor was stained with mud from shoes. We filled the attachment with water and additionally moistened the pads, wringing them out before installing them.

The dirt removal performance is decent. It's slightly inferior to an electric mop, but for everyday wet cleaning and dusting, it's more than sufficient.

Let's sum it up

The Clever&Clean HV-450 (5-in-1) was thoroughly reviewed and tested. We'll evaluate it based on its price point and performance.

Ergonomics 8 out of 10. While the vacuum cleaner is convenient to use, there are a number of criticisms, which I discussed in detail at the beginning of the review. These include the awkward button placement. Also, I find the vacuum cleaner's vacuum cleaner difficult to remove from the main unit, and there's no vertical parking feature. However, holding the vacuum cleaner comfortably while cleaning doesn't tire my hand, the weight is standard, and the handle itself is ergonomic. The vacuum cleaner itself appears high-quality; the plastic isn't premium, but it's not budget-friendly either, and neither is the price.

Versatility 10 out of 10. The top-of-the-line package includes five attachments, including a unique polishing attachment, which is the reason we gave it the top score. There's no dedicated carpet cleaning attachment, which is a drawback, but the roller handle performed well in our tests. This handheld vacuum cleaner picks up debris well from a variety of surfaces, and it has a removable battery. There are no particular complaints about its versatility.

Cleaning quality 9 out of 10. The vacuum cleaner didn't perform particularly well in crevices of varying depths on the test bench, although this is due to its design rather than its motor power. The scrubber attachment, while suitable for wet cleaning, isn't suitable for scrubbing away heavy dirt. It's important to note, however, that this vacuum cleaner picks up debris well, clearly above average, and when equipped with the crevice tool or soft-bristled brush, it's quite powerful, which is essential for spot cleaning furniture.

Manufacturer support 10 out of 10. I've said many times that I trust Clever&Clean. They've been around for a while, their products are official, and they offer warranty support and service. Besides that, Clever&Clean Specializing in cleaning equipment, each new product is updated and refined based on feedback from previous models. This brand is therefore trustworthy and has truly earned the top score.

Total 37 out of 40 points

In conclusion, the Clever&Clean HV-450 is a very interesting handheld vacuum cleaner in the sub-$200 price range. I thoroughly enjoyed testing this device, and overall, I was very impressed with it, so I can recommend it. That concludes the review. I also trust the Clever&Clean brand. I have a robot vacuum cleaner from this brand, and we also decided to get an upright one—this one in particular—five in one. I guess I've gotten used to the buttons by now; I think that's how it should be. The vacuum is really convenient. And, importantly, it's powerful. When you vacuum your carpet, you can immediately see how it feels cleaner and fresher.
