Dreame: A Brief Introduction to the Brand, Pros, and Cons of Dreame Robot Vacuum Cleaners

We're continuing to explore brands that specialize in the production and sale of robotic vacuum cleaners, and today we'll focus on the world-renowned Dreame. Those who follow the robotic vacuum cleaner market have likely seen Dreame products featured in various ratings, comparisons, and simply lists of the best robotic vacuum cleaners. It's truly one of the leading brands in this industry, as its products, especially its flagship models, boast high efficiency, advanced features, and often even competitive pricing. Having tested almost their entire product line, as well as attending the presentation of the new line in October 2023, I have a general opinion of the brand, as well as an understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of the line as a whole, and of the company itself. So, without wasting your time, I'll move on to a review of the manufacturer and the vacuum cleaners themselves. So, let's get started!

Briefly about the brand

First, let me tell you about Dreame itself. It's a Chinese company founded in 2017. Its founder, Mr. Yu Hao, remains the CEO to this day. He is a graduate of Tsinghua University, a leading university in China. He has been fascinated with technology since childhood and boasts achievements such as inventing a dual-control chip at age 12 and founding the Sky Workshop research program, which focuses on aerodynamics and aircraft engine improvement. Boeing itself has invested in the company.

Even during his university years, Yu Hao led the development of the motor now found in Dreame vacuum cleaners. This is the company's core technology. Currently, high-speed brushless motors with rotational speeds of 160,000 and 180,000 rpm are in mass production. The company also has the technology to increase rotational speed to 200,000 rpm. Interestingly, in 2020, Dreame was the first to market with a motor capable of rotational speeds of up to 150,000 rpm, while the technical limit for this figure on the market was 125,000 rpm.

And now comes the most interesting part: since 2017, the company has launched over 20 robotic vacuum cleaner models and even more upright vacuum cleaners. Dreame is also branching out into new areas, including hair dryers, robotic waiters, pool cleaning robots, robotic lawn mowers, and even a second-generation robotic dog, which was announced at the CCF exhibition in Moscow on October 30, 2023.

Regarding the relationship between Dreame and Xiaomi, Dreame joined the Xiaomi ecosystem immediately upon entering the market in 2017. It manufactures products for Xiaomi, including robot vacuum cleaners, so you've likely noticed similarities between some Xiaomi and Dreame robot models. However, it's important to note that Dreame manufactures its products in-house, meaning it's not Xiaomi that produces Dreame products; Dreame produces Xiaomi products.

Here are some company figures to help you better understand and appreciate the scale of Dreame's development:

• Dreame products are sold in over 120 countries.
• The company currently produces more than 550,000 vacuum cleaners per year.
• Each Dreame product has undergone approximately 4,800 tests during its development.
• The company has filed 785 patents, 248 of which are invention patents.
• The company employs over 100 designers from the world's best design schools.
• More than 50% of Dreame's employees are engineers.

Advantages and disadvantages

Based on my experience using Dreame robotic and upright vacuum cleaners, I'll share the strengths and weaknesses of the products and the brand itself. Let's start with the positives.

The first key advantage of Dreame products is implementation of advanced unique technologies Dreame has incorporated advanced features into its flagship products. Speaking of robots, this includes an innovative retractable cleaning cloth, a cleaning cloth release feature on the cleaning station, and a proprietary voice assistant that understands Russian. This is something no other robot vacuum cleaner on the market offers. Furthermore, Dreame robots boast artificial intelligence, cutting-edge design solutions, and a cleaning station that is highly autonomous by 2023 standards.

The next advantage is official sales on the marketUnlike many other Chinese companies, Dreame is officially represented on the market. It has official distributors, service centers, comprehensive after-sales support, and software fully adapted to the Russian market. Even when purchasing a premium robot over $1,000, you get a fully official product with manufacturer support. That's a plus.

Another strong point of the brand is high build qualityIt's already been mentioned that Dreame manufactures its products in-house, and it's been stated that each device undergoes up to 4,800 tests during development. I even disassembled the Dreame robot vacuum cleaner alongside robots from other Xiaomi ecosystem manufacturers, and the only brand that assembles robots as well is Roborock. Roborock is also a major, reputable brand specializing in household cleaning robots. So Dreame stands for not only innovation but also high-quality assembly.

Wide range of products in the line – this is another advantage of the company. As mentioned earlier, the Dreame robot lineup includes more than 20 robots in various price segments. There are excellent models priced under $200, under $30, under $40, and so on. Dreame robot vacuum cleaners occupy leading positions in each price segment, and updated ratings on the channel confirm this. Everyone can find the best option for their needs and budget.

Well, the last of the company’s key strengths is very high cleaning efficiencyDreame robotic and upright vacuum cleaners are generally very powerful. They perform excellently at picking up debris on a variety of floor surfaces. Their floor cleaning performance is also among the best on the market, thanks to innovative cleaning module design. The upright vacuum cleaners feature a highly ergonomic design, a well-designed cleaning module, and a wide range of accessories compatible with several models, further enhancing cleaning efficiency.

Other important advantages worth noting include the availability of spare parts and consumables, which are available on various marketplaces. The product's modern, stylish design, which was also briefly mentioned, is also worth noting. And the optimal price compared to competing brands.

As for the shortcomings, especially with the advent of the new flagship robotic vacuum cleaners Dreame Bot L20 Ultra Complete and L30 Ultra, all the comments that could have been made have sunk into oblivion.

I can only say that Dreame companies – there is room for growth, as well as other brands. For example, wet cleaning isn't the most effective in robot vacuums priced under $400. In this price segment, Dreame robots focus more on dry cleaning thanks to their powerful suction. Only with the included cloth washing stations can Dreame robots compete in floor cleaning performance. The cheapest of these robots is the Dreame Bot L10 Prime, which starts at exactly $400. As for dry cleaning, Dreame only has a few D-shaped robots in its lineup that can effectively sweep debris out of corners, and these aren't flagship models. Therefore, I personally expect the premium new models to be D-shaped or square.

To sum it up, Dreame can truly be considered one of the best robot vacuum cleaners on the market, if not the best as of late November 2023. And as the brand representative said at the presentation, and I completely agree, Dreame entered the market at the right time, in the right place, with the right people. In just six years, becoming a top robot vacuum manufacturer and earning the trust of hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of customers, including myself, is an excellent achievement. I hope Dreame continues its momentum and continues to surprise and delight us with its new developments with each new season.
