JONR ED12: a wet upright vacuum cleaner with an improved roller wetting system

JONR ED12JONR ED12

The JONR ED12 is an affordable upright wet/dry vacuum cleaner. During sales, like the one at the time of this review, you can order this device for just $150. That's about $160 at the current exchange rate. For this price, you get a cordless wet/dry vacuum cleaner with a self-cleaning function, two operating modes, a roller located at the edge of the body, and an improved package. Below, I'll show you how the JONR ED12 is designed, how it performs its primary function, and then I'll highlight the pros and cons I discovered during testing, followed by my final opinion. So, let's get started!

Equipment

The vacuum cleaner arrived in a branded box like this:

There are no spare parts included, but I was pleased to see that the cleaning solution was included. Let's move on!

Appearance

Let's take a look at the design of the JONR ED12. Let's start with the cleaning module. As mentioned earlier, the roller is offset to one side, which should improve cleaning performance along baseboards and furniture by reducing the blind spot between the edge of the body and the roller itself. The top cover is removable. A significant advantage of this vacuum cleaner is the increased number of holes in the cover for wetting the roller. Typically, there are 16 of them, but this model has a whopping 40. Looking ahead, I should say that this is precisely what allows the roller to be wetted more thoroughly and evenly.

The roller is held in place by a side clip. It's made of soft bristles. Behind the roller is a scraper for collecting liquid residue from the floor, a metal plate with teeth for untangling hair and fur on the roller during operation, and a suction port.

A 450 ml dirty water tank is located above the cleaning module. Inside, there's a foam filter with a mesh screen and electronic water level sensors. Unfortunately, a HEPA filter or coarse filter is not included.

Above the dirty water tank there is a display analogue – a black circle containing 3 light indicators of the battery charge status.

Mounted even higher is the clean water tank. It has a larger capacity, holding up to 850 ml of water. The lid is equipped with a mesh filter for coarse filtration of liquid before it enters the vacuum cleaner system.

The vacuum cleaner is controlled by buttons on the handle. There are only two: one to turn the power on and off, and one to switch between two operating modes: standard and maximum. A dry suction mode is not available. When the vacuum cleaner is placed on the base, the mode switch button activates the self-cleaning function.

Speaking of the base itself, it has ventilation holes in the front, which are usually used to dry the roller. However, this model doesn't have a drying function. The JONR ED12 base only allows for self-cleaning and charging.

Technical specifications

The main characteristics of JONR ED12, as declared by the manufacturer:

  • Battery: Li-Ion, 2600 mAh.
  • Power consumption: 160 W.
  • Working time: up to 35 min.
  • Charging time: up to 4 hours.
  • Clean water tank: 850 ml.
  • Dirty water tank: 450 ml.
  • Noise level: 71-73.5 dB.
  • Weight: 3.63 kg.

In my opinion, the battery is a bit weak compared to similar devices, but otherwise, everything else is standard. I personally tested the noise level, which is between 71 and 73.5 dB, which is in line with most similar devices.

Testing

And finally, let's move on to the tests. A detailed video review of the JONR ED12, including all the tests, has already been published on the channel:

The JONR ED12 performs well for everyday floor cleaning, both on wood and tile surfaces. It leaves no streaks and, when used correctly, won't damage delicate flooring.

This cordless vacuum cleaner can be used not only for cleaning floors but also for picking up liquids. And, as in my case, it even passed the now-traditional test of picking up a mixture of raw egg and flour.

The JONR ED12 can also be used to clean slightly dried-on dirt. As you can see, there are no marks or streaks left. The floor is perfectly clean.

Wiping off dirt

Since the roller doesn't extend right up to the edge of the body, a narrow strip of approximately 10 mm remains. This is important to take into account. However, the blind zone is smaller than that of most other wet/dry vacuum cleaners, which typically range from 20-22 mm.

Blind spot

This vacuum cleaner even removed tough, dried-on coffee and sauce stains. As with similar vacuums, it took some time to remove the sauce stains. Specifically, it took seven minutes to remove the stain, compared to over 10 minutes for most budget-friendly vacuums. However, the JONR ED12 used a proprietary detergent in this test. However, I suspect the increased number of water inlet holes on the roller also played a significant role. Overall, the JONR ED12 does a good job of removing tough stains.

Furthermore, this wet/dry vacuum cleaner can also be used for dry cleaning, provided you don't add water to the tank. It easily picks up various types of debris from the floor. However, there's a small blind spot in the corner where the roller doesn't reach. It's minimal, but it's there.

Dry cleaning

Considering this is a wet/dry vacuum cleaner, it's not practical to use it for cleaning carpets. However, it's still possible, as long as you don't add water to the tank. The roller structure isn't capable of thoroughly cleaning carpets, and debris can clog the suction system, which is what happened during testing, as the suction system doesn't work properly without water. Overall, I recommend cleaning carpets with a regular upright vacuum, or entrusting the job to a robotic vacuum cleaner with a suitable design and power.

The final test is to check the self-cleaning performance after all the tests. In this regard, the JONR ED12 self-cleans on par with budget-friendly alternatives. It's not perfect, but acceptable. A small amount of dirt remains on the lid itself, as does the roller itself. The roller itself, however, self-cleans well, thanks to its metal comb and 40 holes for uniform water distribution.

In a domestic environment, after daily floor washing, self-cleaning does a better job, as the cleaning module is in a less neglected condition.

Personal opinion

The JONR ED12 upright wet/dry vacuum cleaner has been thoroughly reviewed and tested. I'll share my thoughts on it.

I liked the following:

The quality of floor washing is quite acceptable for domestic conditions.

  1. Improved roller wetting thanks to an increased number of water supply holes.
  2. Capable of removing difficult stains.
  3. Large capacity tank for clean water.
  4. The roller is moved closer to the edge of the body.
  5. It can also be used for dry cleaning if you do not add water to the tank.
  6. Light weight.
  7. Detergent included.

As for the disadvantages, there are the following comments about the vacuum cleaner:

  1. There is no HEPA filter or coarse filter.
  2. Non-removable battery.
  3. There is no liquid suction mode without water supply.
  4. There is no drying of the roller on the base.
  5. There is still a narrow, non-washable zone along the baseboard and in the corners, although it is smaller than many similar products.
  6. The battery is a bit weak.
  7. Not suitable for cleaning carpets.

We see that this vacuum cleaner has both pros and cons. Some of these criticisms are specific to the budget segment. Therefore, I would recommend weighing the pros and cons when choosing this wet/dry vacuum cleaner. Its main feature, of course, is the improved wetting of the roller, which improves dirt removal and overall cleaning performance.

On that note, I'd like to end this review. If you have any questions, please ask them in the comments. Happy shopping. Bye!

Hello, I really enjoyed your review, thank you! This vacuum cleaner really appealed to me, despite its weak and non-removable battery. Could you please tell me if you would recommend this one or if I should look at other similar models with the same features? Thank you.
