Dreame M13s: an upright vacuum cleaner for complete floor cleaning and dry cleaning!

Dreame M13sDreame M13s

The Dreame M13s is definitely one of the best upright wet vacuums of 2023, if not the best. This new product features several cutting-edge technical features, including two rollers extending almost to the edges of the unit, effectively scrubbing dirt across the entire width. A self-cleaning and roller-drying function is also included on the base. It boasts increased suction power, disinfects clean water in the tank, and, most importantly, a detachable main unit with several attachments, allowing the vacuum to be used not only for washing floors but also for full-fledged dry cleaning. Below, I'll thoroughly test the Dreame M13s and then express my opinion on whether it's worth buying. The price at the time of writing is between $480 and $650. So, let's get started!

Regionalism

The first thing to note is that this model is intended for the Chinese market. A global version will likely be released later, and likely under a different name. The Dreame M13s comes in a box with everything in Chinese. The manual is also in Chinese. The voice notifications are also in Chinese. They can be turned off completely. Furthermore, this vacuum cleaner is not sold by official retailers. Consequently, there is no full warranty. You can order it yourself from China or from local sellers. I've provided a link to purchase from a trusted seller below.

But in fact, unlike the Chinese Dreame robot vacuum cleaners, the ease of use and performance of this washing vacuum cleaner is not affected in any way by the fact that it is intended for the Chinese market.

Equipment

The Dreame M13s package includes:

  1. Two floor stands for parking a wet vacuum cleaner and dry cleaning attachments.
  2. Dust collector for dry cleaning.
  3. Nozzle with mini turbo brush for cleaning upholstered furniture.
  4. Crevice nozzle.
  5. Extension tube with main floor nozzle.
  6. Spare HEPA filter.
  7. A brush for cleaning a washing vacuum cleaner.
  8. Branded cleaning product.
  9. Operating instructions in Chinese.

The package is very good. It actually includes almost all the attachments for a full-fledged dry cleaning and floor washing. Ideally, the only thing missing would be a replacement carpet roller for the floor nozzle.

Appearance

Now let's take a look at the Dreame M13s upright vacuum cleaner. Let's start with the main floor cleaning unit. It's an advanced fusion of Dreame H12 Pro And Dreame M12The cleaning module consists of two rollers extending almost to the edges of the body. There's a small blind spot due to the roller locks, but it's minimal and significantly smaller than most similar devices.

Cleaning module

The top cover is removable. The assembly is equipped with a mechanical button; pressing it releases the latches, allowing the rollers to be removed from their sockets. The structure is familiar to Dreame wet vacuum cleaners, and the bristles are soft. The rollers are held in place by unique holders with crosses that rotate the rollers. Inside, along the entire length of the rollers, serrated blades are installed to comb out tangled hair, fur, and other debris.

Scrapers are installed behind both rollers to collect residual liquid from the floor. Two small wheels are located between the rollers to improve gliding.

Above the cleaning module are tanks for clean and dirty water. The dirty water tank is equipped with a HEPA filter with a mesh screen and electronic water level sensors. There is no coarse filter. The tank capacity is 700 ml.

The 900 ml clean water tank contains a coarse water filter and an electrolytic water sterilization module that disinfects the water and kills various viruses.

The top of the body features a large, informative display that shows the battery charge, the selected mode, the power level, and service messages. The Dreame M13s has seven operating modes: automatic, ultra mode, suction mode, self-cleaning, roller drying, standard suction power for dry cleaning, and turbo mode for dry cleaning. I'll cover each one briefly.

Dreame M13s: Operating ModesDreame M13s: Operating Modes

Operating modes

In automatic mode, the Dreame M13s automatically adjusts suction power based on how dirty the floor is. Ultra mode activates water sterilization. First, the sterilization process begins, after which the motor starts and the cleaning module is activated. In liquid suction mode, suction is activated without supplying water to the roller. Self-cleaning is a fairly standard mode for cordless wet/dry vacuum cleaners, but during drying, the roller is blown with warm air, ensuring the pile is completely dry after drying. This is a plus. Suction power is adjusted by detaching the main unit from the wet/dry vacuum cleaner. You can then choose between two additional power modes. The wet/dry vacuum cleaner handle has three buttons: on/off, switching between operating modes, and activating the self-cleaning function on the base.

I'll immediately highlight the removable main unit. It detaches with the press of a button. A separate dust bag and attachment are conveniently attached. The handle houses two control buttons: an on/off switch and a mode switch. The dry cleaning filtration system features a five-stage design, including a HEPA filter, a foam filter, a cyclone filter, and a mesh filter. An additional blow-out sponge filter is also located in the main unit's ventilation holes.

A few words about the additional attachments. The standard mini turbo brush for cleaning upholstery features a roller with bristle inserts. The crevice tool has retractable bristles. The main floor nozzle also features a roller with fluffy, soft bristles. The locking mechanism is removable by hand, so no additional tools are required. Behind the roller is a large suction hole and a comb for detangling tangled hair and fur.

A useful lifehack: if you need a carpet roller, you can even order a head with a light. It will work from new Dreame R20The Dreame M13s is also compatible with the V16s floor nozzle. It has the same roller, but also features a spotlight to illuminate the cleaning area. Keep this in mind.

The last thing to consider is the Dreame M13s vacuum cleaner base. It's equipped with vents on both sides for hot air drying of both rollers. Drying is effective, and after the drying cycle, the rollers are completely dry, which is a plus. Furthermore, the Dreame M13s base charges and self-cleans.

Overall, this is definitely the most versatile wet/dry vacuum cleaner I've tested, and certainly one of the most versatile in the world.

Technical specifications

The main characteristics of the Dreame M13s, as declared by the manufacturer:

  • Battery: Li-Ion, 5000 mAh.
  • Power consumption: 350 W.
  • Operating time: washing vacuum cleaner up to 40 min, dry cleaning up to 75 min.
  • Clean water tank: 900 ml.
  • Dirty water tank: 700 ml.
  • Noise level: 71-73 dB.
  • Weight: washing vacuum cleaner 6 kg, dry cleaning 2.72 kg.

It's worth noting the increased battery capacity and increased power consumption compared to the previously released Dreame H12 Pro and M12. I personally measured the noise level, which is around 71-73 dB, for both wet and dry vacuum use.

Noise level

The wet/dry vacuum cleaner weighs 6 kg with empty tanks. The dry vacuum cleaner, however, weighs 1,792 grams for the main unit with dust container, 267 grams for the extension tube, and 661 grams for the main floor nozzle. The total weight of the complete unit is 2,720 grams, which is comparable to similar models.

The Dreame M13s's runtime was also tested using it as a dry vacuum. It managed to run for 43 minutes and 34 seconds in Turbo mode with the main nozzle. This is a very good result.

Opening hours

Given its increased power, the vacuum cleaner can quickly collect debris and then clean the floor. I ran all subsequent tests with the wet/dry vacuum cleaner in automatic mode, and the Dreame M13s can run for about 40 minutes as a wet/dry vacuum, which is very impressive!

Testing

A detailed video review of the Dreame M13s, including all tests, has already been prepared and published on the channel:

And finally, let's move on to the tests. First, let's check how the Dreame M13s handles its primary task—floor cleaning. The vacuum cleaner handles everyday floor cleaning perfectly. No complaints. It leaves no streaks or marks, and the water flow is moderate.

If necessary, you can also use a vacuum cleaner to pick up liquids and mixtures, like I did with the now-classic egg and flour dough. Very convenient!

Furthermore, the Dreame M13s effectively picks up dirt from floors without leaving streaks or marks. Moreover, thanks to the rollers extending out from both sides of the device, it can thoroughly clean dirt along baseboards. In reality, the blind zone is approximately 5 mm, while most similar devices have a blind zone of 15-20 mm. Still, Dreame's engineers still have room for improvement.

Dirt removal and blind spot

Well, when it comes to removing difficult dried-on stains, such as coffee and sauce, the Dreame M13s handles this task without any problems.

Dreame M13s: Removing tough stainsDreame M13s: Removing tough stains

Removing difficult stains

But what was surprising was that it took about 5 minutes to completely remove the stains from the stand. The Dreame M12 and H12 Pro achieved roughly the same results. Moreover, in both cases, I used the brand's cleaning product. It turns out that the second roller doesn't actually improve the speed of stain removal. Although I think it should improve cleaning efficiency in a home environment. Again, similar products perform no better, and many even perform worse.

After all the tests, we checked the self-cleaning performance of the wet/dry vacuum cleaner, and here again, the Dreame M13s impressed. It cleans itself effectively of dirt and debris. The self-cleaning algorithm has also been updated. The roller alternately rotates in different directions, improving cleaning performance. And most interestingly, even after such a challenging test, the cleaning module was completely clean, with virtually no dirt remaining behind the roller holders, including on both rollers. Both the top cover and the platform were clean. Self-cleaning is very well implemented on this model. The test was passed successfully!

Suction power

I'll also show you how the Dreame M13s performs in dry cleaning mode with the optional attachments. As for suction power, even at medium power, the vacuum cleaner was able to easily suck up debris from a 10 mm gap. So, it's definitely a powerful upright vacuum. You might not even need to use Turbo mode.

Collecting debris on laminate flooring

Now let's test how well the Dreame M13s picks up floor debris. I scattered various types of debris on the laminate floor: hair, fur, grains, and other small household debris. This machine performed well. It's important to note that it has no trouble picking up debris along baseboards and in corners. It picks everything up thoroughly. No hair or lint gets caught in the roller. All debris is collected in the dust bin. Test passed!

Carpet cleaning

Cleaning a carpet with the Dreame M13s isn't particularly convenient, but it's still possible. Because the roller isn't the right type, hair and fur aren't picked up on the first pass. However, the medium-pile carpet was completely cleaned. Ideally, you should invest in a carpet roller attachment.

Using additional attachments

It's also worth noting that the additional attachments allow you to clean a sofa, areas the main nozzle can't reach, and even the inside of a car. Overall, this vacuum cleaner is suitable for a variety of applications.

Cleaning the dust collector

Finally, I'll tell you how to clean the dust bin. Dirt doesn't fall out the bottom, like with other Dreame upright vacuums. You just detach the dust bin, remove the filtration system, and empty the dust from the bowl. Pretty convenient!

Personal opinion

The Dreame M13s upright vacuum cleaner was thoroughly reviewed and tested. I'll highlight the pros and cons I discovered, then share my personal opinion. Here's what I liked:

I liked the following:

  1. Very high power.
  2. High quality floor washing and dirt removal.
  3. It removes dirt along the baseboard better than many similar products.
  4. An effective cleaning module based on two rollers.
  5. The presence of a removable hand-held vacuum cleaner for complete dry cleaning.
  6. High-quality waste collection on hard surfaces.
  7. High-quality self-cleaning.
  8. Complete drying of the roller with hot air.
  9. Automatic power increase when the vacuum cleaner detects dirt.
  10. Disinfection of clean water in the tank.
  11. Long working time.
  12. Stylish design.
  13. Increased capacity of water tanks.
  14. Ergonomic design.
  15. Informative LED display on the body.
  16. The noise level is below average.
  17. Good complete set, including branded cleaning product.
  18. High quality assembly.

When discussing shortcomings, these are actually more like comments and suggestions to the engineers about what needs to be improved to make the product practically perfect. Here are the comments we found:

  1. There is no manual adjustment of suction power in the washing vacuum cleaner.
  2. There is no way to regulate the water supply level.
  3. There is no attachment or roller for cleaning carpets.
  4. Non-removable battery.
  5. It doesn't wash a narrow strip along the baseboard, although it must be admitted that this strip is very narrow.
  6. Designed for the Chinese market, voice notifications are in Chinese and there is no official warranty or service support.

Ultimately, the main question is likely about regional availability and after-sales support. Given the price tag, many are not entirely happy with the fact that repairs are currently unclear and dependent on the seller. However, it's worth considering that Dreame produces fairly reliable equipment and refines its products year after year, addressing the shortcomings and so-called teething problems of previous models. Therefore, the likelihood of breakdown is minimal and clearly lower than with most Chinese counterparts.

Overall, I really liked this wet/dry vacuum cleaner, and I'd call it a combined machine for full-fledged wet and dry cleaning in the home. The idea of a retractable main unit and a set of dry cleaning attachments is definitely a cool one. You buy one device and use it for all your cleaning needs. I'm sure other brands will release similar 2-in-1 devices in the future.

As a result, if in the previously released 2023 ranking of washing upright vacuum cleaners took the championship Roborock Dyad Pro, slightly outperforming its main competitor, the Dreame H12 Pro, in terms of efficiency. After using the Dreame M13s, I can confidently say that it's currently the best upright wet/dry vacuum cleaner I've tested. It's no less effective, more versatile, and very convenient. So, if you're not ready to entrust most of your cleaning to a robot and want a device for full-fledged handheld cleaning, definitely consider this option.

On this note, I'd like to end this review. Happy shopping. Bye!
