The Dreame Z40 Station is the best upright dry vacuum cleaner in the Dreame lineup as of late December 2024. It boasts a station for automatic self-cleaning of the dust bin, superior suction power reaching 310 Air Watts, and a full set of attachments, including a pet brush, a scrubber, and even a spare battery. Additionally, the main floor nozzle has been updated, a dirt disinfection mode has been added to the station, the scrubber attachment has been improved, and the intelligent features of its Z-series predecessors, including intelligent particle size detection and automatic suction boost, are retained. In short, you get top-of-the-line features, a fully loaded kit, and a self-cleaning dust bin. For such a complete package, you'll have to pay between $900 and $1,000. So, I thoroughly tested the Dreame Z40 Station, highlighted its pros and cons, and then expressed my opinion. So, let's get started!

Equipment

The vacuum cleaner arrived in a branded box like this:

As you can see, the package is top-notch, and this is not surprising, considering the price of the vacuum cleaner.

Appearance

Now let's take a look at the Dreame Z40 Station's design. The main unit is gray and identical in appearance and specifications to its predecessor. Dreame Z30It features an 855-watt motor, producing a market-leading suction power of 310 Aerowatts.

The removable battery is a plus! It can be charged either at the station or in the accessory storage stand.

An informative display with control buttons is located on the end of the unit: it turns the power on and off, as well as switches between operating modes. The display shows the battery charge percentage, the selected operating mode, and statistics on the collection of debris of various sizes.

Built-in sensors in the vacuum cleaner detect the size and quantity of particles being collected. Here's how it works:

The Dreame Z40 Station has three operating modes: Automatic, Energy Saving, and Turbo. In Automatic mode, the vacuum cleaner automatically adjusts suction power depending on how dirty the floor is. On carpets, the suction power does not increase automatically.

The dust container is removable. This is also a good thing. The main unit itself contains a HEPA-14 filter. The dust container also includes an additional fabric filter and a cyclone with a mesh screen. The manufacturer allows the entire filtration system to be washed with water. Just be sure to dry the filters thoroughly before replacing them in the vacuum cleaner.

Let's take a look at the included attachments. The main floor nozzle has been redesigned. It also features a swivel joint, a turbo brush, a front curtain lift switch, and a light.

But now the LED backlight has a wider beam angle, and the turbo brush itself has a combined structure: a wide insert of fluffy soft bristles for hard floors and a narrow, elastic bristle insert for brushing carpets. We'll test the effectiveness of this solution. The turbo brush can be removed from the attachment without any tools. Behind it, you'll see a comb for detangling tangled hair and fur.

The scrubbing attachment also received a small but important design change. It still features a water tank and a switch for adjusting the wetness of the wipes, but now features a nozzle at the front for manually spraying water in front of the attachment. This helps dissolve stains and increase the amount of wetness on the wipes. It's not a unique solution, but it's very useful! The wipes are the familiar round shape and are held in place with Velcro. The suction funnel for light debris has been removed; after all, it wasn't really needed.

The set of additional attachments is identical to the Dreame Z30. The upholstery attachment features a turbo brush with silicone paddles. To access it, you'll need a flat-head screwdriver or a coin.

The pet hair brush attachment with a hair removal platform deserves special attention. I'll show you how it works in my tests. Pet owners will appreciate this feature!

A crevice tool and a soft bristle nozzle are standard. Also relatively new to the Dreame line of vacuum cleaners is a nozzle with a rotating soft brush. It can be used to collect dust on textured surfaces.

There is also a flexible extension hose and a bendable adapter.

In general, the attachments will be sufficient for complete cleaning in domestic conditions.

As for the station, the Dreame Z40 Station charges and cleans itself on it.

A 3-liter waste bag is located on the side under the lid. Underneath it is a filter that needs to be washed periodically.

Interestingly, there's another filter at the bottom of the station—a HEPA filter. This is very good, as it will clean the air coming out of the station. Again, important for allergy sufferers.

When the vacuum cleaner is placed on the station, self-cleaning starts automatically. There are also two control buttons: one for manually starting the self-cleaning function and the other for activating the station's waste disinfection function.

A special disinfection module is installed in front of the bag. When the self-cleaning mode is activated, the waste is simultaneously disinfected. I can't verify the effectiveness of this solution, but it's worth mentioning.

The accessory storage stand deserves special attention. It features a charging port, allowing you to charge a spare battery separately. It can also store some of the included attachments. While not all of them are included, your most frequently used attachments will always be within easy reach.

We see a number of design updates compared to previously released models. The pros and cons of the design will be discussed in the final review. Let's move on!

Technical specifications

The main characteristics of the Dreame Z40 Station, as stated by the manufacturer:

We see that the spare battery capacity is slightly smaller, as is the runtime when installed. The noise level was personally tested and found to be between 68-78 dB. This upright vacuum cleaner is slightly noisier, but its high power is worth considering.

These parameters are interconnected. The station's noise level is approximately 79 dB, which is quite standard.

As for weight, the main unit weighs 2,215 grams, the extension tube 242 grams, and the main nozzle 850 grams. In total, the vacuum cleaner weighs 3,307 grams when fully assembled. And I can say that it's actually heavier than similar models. It's not a huge deal, but it's a fact. For example, Dreame R20 when fully assembled it weighs 2734 grams, and Z10 Station 2757 grams. The reason is precisely the updated design of the main unit. The vacuum cleaner has become much more powerful, but also heavier.

Opening hours

Let's move on to the tests. First, let's check the Dreame Z40 Station's battery life in Turbo mode with the main brush head attached. It managed exactly 12 minutes of runtime. That's a pretty standard result. By comparison, the Dreame Z30 lasted slightly longer—12 minutes and 42 seconds. Apparently, the updated turbo brush with its improved backlight consumes slightly more power, draining the battery faster.

I'll add that the Dreame Z40 Station lasted 7 minutes on a spare battery with a smaller capacity. Its total runtime is 19 minutes, which is already a good result for a premium vacuum cleaner and a powerful upright vacuum.

Suction power

In terms of power, the vacuum cleaner in Energy Saving mode was able to clean debris from a 10 mm gap on the simplest stand, and also partially cleaned crevices up to 20 mm deep. In Turbo mode, it easily cleaned crevices up to 35 mm deep. So, this is certainly a powerful upright vacuum.

Collecting debris on laminate flooring

Now let's test how well the Dreame Z40 Station picks up floor debris with its new nozzle. I scattered various types of debris on the laminate flooring: hair, fur, grains, and other small household debris. This device performed well.

It's important to note that it has no problem picking up debris along baseboards and in corners. It picks everything up thoroughly. Hair and fur don't get caught in the roller. That's a plus!

Carpet cleaning

The same debris was scattered on a low-pile carpet, and the Dreame Z30 literally sucked the life out of it. It then thoroughly cleaned a medium-pile carpet.

The nozzle does an excellent job of collecting debris on various surfaces!

Removing stains

I also tested the effectiveness of the floor polisher attachment. It even removed tough stains like dried-on coffee and sauce stains. It took about two minutes to remove, which is even faster than with a similar attachment. Dreame R20 AquaAll thanks to the new water spray function in front of the cleaning module.

By comparison, even specialized upright vacuum cleaners complete a similar task in an average of 5 minutes. However, upright vacuum cleaners are, of course, much more effective in this regard, as they self-clean during use and leave no streaks. With this type of mopping attachment, the pads become clogged with dirt and rub it across the floor. You'll need to remove them, wash them, and then replace them several times during cleaning.

However, if the floor isn't "neglected," I think that with regular cleaning, washing these pads a couple of times per cleaning will be sufficient. Perhaps for some, this solution is still optimal and more convenient than using dedicated wet/dry vacuum cleaners.

Using additional attachments

It's also worth noting that the complete kit allows you to clean a sofa, areas beyond the reach of the main nozzle, and even the inside of a car. And thanks to the flexible connector, you can even clean under low furniture. Overall, this vacuum cleaner is suitable for a variety of applications.

The attachment for combing animals deserves special attention.

You can see the hair collecting on the comb. Then, press the button on the back, and all the hair is removed, immediately falling into the suction hole.

A cool solution and very convenient for pet owners!

Self-cleaning

Finally, we'll test the self-cleaning function on the station. After all the tests, we see that the dust bin is full of debris and hair. We place the main unit on the station, and self-cleaning starts automatically. The dust bin is practically perfectly clean after self-cleaning.

If the station fails to completely empty the dust bin the first time, you can press the manual self-cleaning button and repeat the process. If the dust bin is heavily clogged and the station is completely unable to empty it, you can remove the dust bin, remove the filtration system, and empty the contents from the flask. Overall, this is a simple process, and the design is similar to solutions from other brands.

Personal opinion

The Dreame Z40 Station upright vacuum cleaner has been thoroughly reviewed and tested. First, I'll highlight the pros and cons I discovered during my initial testing, then I'll share my personal opinion of this model. I liked the following:

1. An effective self-cleaning station that does its primary job well and can even disinfect bagged waste.
2. In reality, the suction power is incredibly powerful. A market record, just like its sibling, the Z30.
3. High-quality debris collection on a variety of surfaces. Unlike its predecessors, there's no need to change roller attachments for hard floors and carpets. One universal attachment does it all—it's convenient, practical, and even more cost-effective!
4. A good set with all the necessary attachments for cleaning and even a spare battery.
5. The extended operating time is due to the spare battery, which can be charged in parallel with the main battery in a special stand.
6. Convenient stand for storing some of the included attachments and charging a spare battery.
7. The updated floor polisher attachment with a water sprayer allows you to remove even stubborn stains and perform wet cleaning after a thorough dry cleaning.
8. The animal grooming attachment deserves special mention; although not unique, it is nonetheless effective and not every brand has one.
9. High-quality filtration system both in the vacuum cleaner and in the station itself.
10. Illumination of the cleaning area with an increased scattering angle.
11. A system for counting the amount and size of trash. While not particularly useful, it nonetheless demonstrates a premium-level level of intelligence.
12. Automatic suction power increase mode.
13. Removable battery.
14. Removable dust collector.
15. Informative display on the body.
16. High-quality assembly and high brand reliability.
17. Ergonomic design and stylish design. The vacuum cleaner is easy to use with one hand and has a modern look.
18. Availability of warranty and service.

As for comments, I didn't like the following:

1. High price. The Dreame Z40 Station is no longer in the mid-price range, as was typical of the Dreame cordless vacuum cleaner line, but a true premium model.
2. The vacuum cleaner is slightly heavier than its competitors. This is especially noticeable when using it as a handheld vacuum, meaning the nozzle doesn't slide across the floor.
3. Increased noise level during operation. This is more of a nuance than a complaint, and is actually caused by the high suction power.
4. There's no vertical parking position outside the holder. This means if you need to take a break while using the vacuum, you'll have to bend over and place it on the floor or prop it up.

Ultimately, I can say that the new product is truly amazing. It's clear that Dreame engineers are constantly working to improve their products. A new turbo brush, a new scrubber attachment, a more convenient stand, and a self-cleaning station with dust sterilization—all of this has positioned the Dreame Z40 Station as the company's flagship product for 2024, and perhaps even the best upright vacuum cleaner of 2024. It's truly powerful, convenient, efficient, and versatile. However, it's expensive, so it's not for everyone. Nevertheless, I found no compelling reasons not to buy the Dreame Z40 Station. Its advantages far outweigh its disadvantages, and overall, I've left a positive impression.
