How to Choose a Robot Window Cleaner in 2024How to Choose a Robot Window Cleaner in 2024

In this review, I'll explain how to choose the right window cleaning robot. This will help you avoid overpaying and leave you satisfied with your purchase. Having tested over 30 window cleaning robots, I now understand how they differ, which is better, and which features are worth paying extra for, while others can be omitted. Many sellers and manufacturers are deceptive in their promotional materials, emphasizing features that won't actually be needed while carefully avoiding any real drawbacks. So, below, I'll explain in detail how to choose a window cleaning robot for your apartment or home and highlight the top 10 best models for 2025. So, let's get started!

Manufacturer

The first thing I'll start with is a brand analysis so you understand how this market works. I consider two companies to be pioneers in setting new trends and developing cutting-edge technologies: Trunk And EcovacsTheir products fall into the mid- to premium segments; however, in terms of build quality and functionality, they generally surpass their counterparts.

Next come the time-tested brands that boast a wide range of devices and, just as importantly, official representatives on the market. Of those I know, I'd like to highlight Atvel, Dadget, Genio And iBotoThese are the companies whose products I reviewed and did not distrust.

And the next group of brands are entirely Chinese manufacturers, popular but without representatives, and often with a lot of good reviews. This is Hutt, Neatsvor, Liectroux and PuRuiKai.

This means that from these 10 brands you can confidently choose the option that suits your needs.

Cleaning module type

The next thing to consider is the type of cleaning module. Most window cleaning robots fall into two types: oval robots with round cleaning pads and square models.

Types of window cleaning robots

So that's how I spent it A comparative test of window cleaning robots of different shapes Under identical conditions, I can say that robots with round cloths actually remove dirt better. This is because the round discs rotate to move the robot across the glass, making them more effective at removing light stains.

There are also square window cleaning robots with vibrating platforms, but you can count them on your fingers. The most recent one I tested was the new Hobot S6 Pro. These robots have all the advantages of square models, but they clean dirt like round ones.

It's important to note that robots with round cloths are significantly better at cleaning windows along the frames. Square robots, in this regard, are highly dependent on the cloth being positioned correctly. It needs to be taut around the edges. Otherwise, a blind spot will form along the frames that will remain unwashed.

And the most important issue is corners. As of March 2025, I haven't yet received any window cleaning robots for review that can thoroughly clean corners. In reality, square robots have a slightly smaller blind spot in the corners, but it's still there. And I wouldn't say this is the deciding factor when choosing between a round or square robot.

Water spraying

In my opinion, the most important feature of window cleaning robots is the automatic spraying of cleaning fluid onto the surface. Different brands approach this task differently. Some use ultrasonic spraying, others use a drip system, some robots have sprayers inside the cleaning cloth, and some have a water jet in front of the cleaning module. There can be several sprayers, up to four. The key is simple spraying. It's best when the sprayers are directed in both directions as the robot moves. In fact, most new models come with two sprayers.

The advantage of an automatic cleaning solution spray is that the cloth won't dry out while washing windows. This is especially important when cleaning large windows. Furthermore, the cleaning quality is improved because more cleaning solution is applied to the dirty surface.

Control type

The next difference is the control method. Most robotic window cleaners are controlled with a standard remote control. However, some models support app control.

Control via remote controlControl via remote control

Control via remote control

The advantage of smartphone control is that, firstly, it's always at hand and less likely to be lost than a remote control. Secondly, some functions, such as water spray, are displayed in the app, indicating whether the function is on or off. With a remote control, you can only tell by sound or visually whether the spray is on. And, most importantly, in my opinion, the app can provide notifications about the robot's status. For example, if the power goes out, you'll instantly know that the robot has entered emergency mode and you need to quickly remove it from the window, even if you're in another room. I've only seen this solution in Hobot robots. Again, as I mentioned in my review of manufacturers, they offer innovative and useful solutions.

In general, it’s good when control is supported both via the remote control and via the app.

Case dimensions

When choosing a window cleaning robot with bars, it's important to consider the height of the unit. For example, bars on windows are typically installed at a distance of 10 to 15 cm. Therefore, if the bars are installed at a distance of 10 cm, not every window cleaning robot will be suitable. Models with a height of 7 and even 6 cm are available. Check this parameter before purchasing.

It's also important to pay attention to the size of the body if you're choosing a robot for cleaning narrow windows. Again, you can count the number of small window cleaning robots on one hand. Of the ones I liked after reviewing, I'd single out the Atvel Zorro Z5 Slim. Its dimensions, measuring 19.5 x 19.5 cm, allow it to clean windows as wide as 27 cm, as verified in tests. The robot is also only 63 mm tall, making it suitable for use on windows with bars.

Equipment

Personally, it's important to me that a window cleaning robot is well-equipped. Again, there are many similar models on the market, both in design and price. It's great when the kit includes at least five sets of spare wipes, branded cleaning fluid, and spare wipe holders, if we're talking about robots with round wipes.

Because one set of wipes is enough to remove dirt from one door. Then it needs to be washed again with clean wipes and cleaning fluid. So, one door requires two sets of wipes. Some robots come with up to 20 wipes, and that's quite appealing!

Application on other surfaces

In addition to window cleaning, the robots in question can be used to clean other surfaces, such as tiled walls, mirrors, and glass doors. All robots are capable of this. However, not all are capable of cleaning frameless or horizontal surfaces.

I'm testing this point. In terms of safety, square robots are better suited for frameless surfaces, as they have edge detection sensors at the corners.

Safety

I'll highlight my own observation: robots with round cleaning cloths are more prone to falling off windows. This is almost always due to improper operation of the robotic window cleaner. This can happen if the cleaning cloth holders are poorly secured, or if the cleaning area is limited by the length of the cord, and the robot struggles to reach the end of the cleaning area with the cord extended. However, it can also happen if the window bead is slanted. Generally, square robotic window cleaners are less likely to experience this problem.

Continuing with the safety issue, I'd like to draw your attention to another important point: the window cleaning robot should have status indicator lights on both sides. This ensures that, in addition to the audible alarm, you can promptly detect an emergency using the indicators.

Emergency modeEmergency mode

Emergency mode

I reviewed robots without indicator lights on the bottom, which is exactly what's needed when the robot is installed outside. A very strange decision by the manufacturers.

What else?

We've covered the key factors to consider when choosing a robotic window cleaner. However, there are a few more important points to consider.

For example, square window cleaning robots move significantly faster. If the task involves cleaning a large number of large windows, a square one will do the job faster.

Some window cleaning robots feature a dual-pass feature. This is most often found on square robots, but oval models with round cleaning pads also boast this feature. The most recent one I tested was the Neatsvor W5.

Many manufacturers like to boast about suction power: 2500 Pa, 3800 Pa, 5600 Pa, and more. In reality, I personally didn't notice any difference in the quality of dirt removal with different suction forces, as they actually pressed down roughly equally hard, despite the different values.

Best Window Cleaning Robots of 2025

The main differences between window cleaning robots have been discussed. These differences will help you understand how to choose the right one in 2025. In conclusion, I'll highlight what I consider to be the top 5 round-wipe robots, and the top 5 square models:

TOP 5 robots with round napkins: TOP 5 square window cleaning robots:
1. Hobot R3 1. Hobot S6 Pro
2. Genio Windy W220 DUO 2. ECOVACS WINBOT W2 PRO
3. Dadget W220 3. HUTT W9
4. Atvel Zorro Z6 Spray 4. Atvel Zorro Z5 Slim
5. Neatsvor W5 5. Genio Windy W250

I tested 8 out of 10 window cleaning robots, so you can find the test results in the corresponding review. Almost all of them are new products for 2025, or at least 2023. Considering the robot window cleaning market is developing very slowly, I think the top 10 will still be relevant even in 2025. Furthermore, 9 out of 10 robots boast a water spray function, which I consider the most important of all the manufacturers' offerings. The only exception is the Atvel Zorro Z5 Slim, which was released in 2022. But it is the most compact window cleaning robot I know of. So, it remains very relevant and a good choice for cleaning very narrow windows.

That's all I have for now. If you have any questions, please ask them in the comments. Finally, we recommend watching the video version of this post:
