Dreame V16s: Upright vacuum cleaner with a polishing attachment and cleaning area illumination

The Dreame V16s is a top-of-the-line stick vacuum cleaner and possibly even the company's flagship in 2023. This model features two cutting-edge design features: a lighted cleaning area in front of the roller and a replaceable mop head with two rotating pads. Additionally, the Dreame V16s boasts increased suction power (210 watts), a set of additional attachments, and an ergonomic design. The price range is between $340-420 and $360-450. Below, I'll thoroughly test this cordless vacuum and then express my opinion on whether it's worth the money. I'd be grateful if you'd appreciate my efforts by subscribing and liking after watching the video. So, let's get started!
Regionalism
The first thing to note is that the Dreame V16s is a Chinese version of the vacuum cleaner. Consequently, the box, manual, and service messages on the display are all in Chinese. Unlike the Chinese Dreame robots, this isn't a big deal for upright vacuums, in my opinion. But it's worth considering.
Equipment
Dreame V16s arrived in this branded box:
The package includes:
- Main block.
- Extension tube.
- Floor nozzle with a fluffy roller for cleaning hard floors.
- Mop attachment.
- Mini turbo brush for cleaning upholstered furniture.
- Wall holder with fasteners.
- Power adapter with Chinese plug.
- Adapter for European standard sockets.
- Crevice nozzle.
- Bendable adapter.
- Brush with soft bristles.
- 2 in 1 attachment with bendable bristles.
- Instruction manual, quick start guide and convenient template for installing the wall mount.
- Measuring cup for pouring water into the mop attachment.
Overall, the kit is good, with almost all the accessories for a full cleaning! The only things missing are a replaceable carpet roller or a separate floor nozzle with a carpet roller. How is this implemented in the new one? Dreame R20.
Appearance
Now let's take a look at the Dreame V16s's design. Let's start with the main unit. It's finished in graphite. The design is the same as the previous models. Dreame V12 Pro, R20 and T30The battery is removable, which is a plus. The vacuum cleaner is turned on and off by pressing a trigger-shaped button. On the end is a display and two mechanical buttons: a mode switch and a power lock. There are three operating modes: ECO, Standard, and Turbo. Apparently, there's no AUTO mode, which would allow the Dreame V16s to automatically adjust suction power based on how dirty the floor is and the type of surface. And that's very strange.
The dust container is completely detachable from the main unit. A pre-motor HEPA filter is installed within the main unit itself. The dust container itself is conveniently emptied with the press of a button. Debris falls out through the bottom. The flask houses a filtration system consisting of a fabric filter, a cyclone, and a mesh. Additionally, an additional sponge filter is visible in the exhaust vents. In total, there's at least a 5-stage filtration system, which is a big plus!
Let's take a look at the main floor nozzle. It features a roller with soft, fluffy bristles for cleaning hard floors. Behind the roller is a fairly large suction hole.
On the side of the front panel, you'll see an LED that illuminates the cleaning area and debris on the floor in green. The idea isn't unique and was likely copied from the Dyson V15 Detect.
But in any case, the solution truly improves waste collection. The roller lock is located on the side and can be easily removed by hand. No additional tools are required, which is a plus.
The mopping attachment also deserves special attention. The tank capacity isn't stated, but it holds approximately 200 ml of water. The cleaning module consists of two rotating, round, thick cloth pads. A suction hole is located in front of the pads. This attachment allows for simultaneous vacuuming and mopping, which is very convenient. The manufacturer has adjustable water flow to the pads: two levels or a shut-off function. Again, this attachment is not unique. Similar attachments are available. PUPPYOO T12 Plus Rinse And Clever&Clean HV-450, which were previously reviewed. But this is the first time I've seen it included with the Dreame upright vacuum cleaner.
Speaking of additional attachments, the mattress and upholstery cleaning tool also features a motorized brush. It has perforated silicone inserts. A flat-head screwdriver or coin is needed to release the locking mechanism. The brush with retractable bristles can also be used in household settings. It has a bendable adapter, making it easier to clean hard-to-reach areas and under low furniture. There's also a soft-bristled nozzle, which can be used for cleaning. The updated crevice tool deserves special attention. It's telescopic, with a flexible inner retractable part. This design improves ease of use and allows for cleaning in tight, narrow spaces, such as under low furniture.
The wall mount is also worth mentioning. It allows you to charge the vacuum cleaner without directly connecting it to the charger, which is very convenient. And that's not all. There's a cover on the top that can be removed to install an additional charging module for a spare battery. This module is sold separately. This allows you to charge two batteries simultaneously, extending the Dreame V16s's runtime. This is ideal for cleaning large areas. The wall mount also allows you to store the included attachments.
This is what the vacuum cleaner looks like when assembled:
Overall, the vacuum cleaner's appearance and design are impressive and in keeping with the premium segment. The only feature missing is vertical parking, a feature common to all Dreame cordless vacuum cleaners designed for dry cleaning.
Technical specifications
Key features of the Dreame V16s, as stated by the manufacturer:
- Power consumption 650 W.
- Suction power up to 210 aW.
- Li-Ion battery 2700 mAh.
- Dust collector 600 ml.
- Operating time up to 85 min.
- Noise level 71-76 dB.
- Weight when fully assembled: 2.65-3 kg.
I personally measured the noise level with a sound level meter. It's in the range of 71-76 dB, depending on the selected mode. This vacuum cleaner's noise level is average. Considering its high suction power, it's even below average. For example, Dreame R20 the noise level reaches 85 dB.
As for weight, the main unit weighs 1,746 grams, the extension tube weighs 206 grams, the main nozzle weighs 699 grams, and the polishing nozzle weighs 1,072 grams. The complete vacuum weighs between 2.65 kg and 3 kg. This is a fairly standard weight for an upright vacuum. The center of gravity is strategically positioned low, preventing hand fatigue during use.
Testing
A detailed video review of the Dreame V16s, including all tests, has already been prepared and published on the channel:
Opening hours
And finally, let's move on to the tests. First, let's check the Dreame V16s's battery life in Turbo mode with the main floor nozzle attached. It managed 9 minutes and 51 seconds, compared to 12 minutes and 37 seconds for its predecessor, the T30, and 13 minutes and 33 seconds for the R20.
The runtime is shorter due to the increased suction power, and the battery, for some reason, hasn't been upgraded. In any case, the runtime is on par with most similar products. Moreover, at medium power, the vacuum cleaner can run for up to 30 minutes, and at minimum power, 85 minutes. In most cases, medium power will be more than enough for thorough cleaning.
Suction power
As for suction power, even on minimum power, the Dreame V16s was able to easily vacuum debris from a 10mm gap. So, it's certainly a powerful upright vacuum. You might not even need to use Turbo mode.
Collecting debris on laminate flooring
Now let's test how well the Dreame V16s picks up floor debris. I scattered various types of debris on the laminate floor: hair, fur, grains, and other small household debris. This machine performed well. It's important to note that it has no trouble picking up debris along baseboards and in corners. It picks everything up thoroughly. No hair or fur gets caught in the roller. All debris is collected in the dust bin. Test passed!
Carpet cleaning
The same debris was scattered on the carpet, and the Dreame V16s did an equally good job of cleaning the carpet. The fluffy roller for hard floors, while not as effective on carpets, is still capable of picking up debris. If desired, you can purchase a special carpet roller attachment from the Dreame T30 or V12 Pro. Its shape and mounting points should be suitable.
Wet cleaning
I'll also demonstrate the effectiveness of the mop attachment. I'm using it to scrub dried dirt off my laminate flooring. The Dreame V16s handles this task with ease. The cloths absorb dirt well, though they do leave some small streaks. This isn't a full-fledged wet/dry vacuum cleaner that can collect dirt in a separate container, so you'll have to scrub the dirt first, then rinse the cloths and vacuum up any remaining liquid from the floor.
However, the Dreame V16s has one major advantage: it cleans dirt right up to the baseboard, which can't be said about most of the full-featured wet/dry vacuums with fluffy rollers I've reviewed. This is thanks to the cloths that extend beyond the edges of the body. This is a major advantage for this vacuum. It's perfect for cleaning in tandem with a robot, cleaning right up to the baseboard, something most robot vacuums can't do.
Using additional attachments
It's also worth noting that the complete kit allows you to clean a sofa, areas beyond the reach of the main nozzle, and even the inside of a car. And thanks to the flexible connector, you can even clean under low furniture. Overall, this vacuum cleaner is suitable for a variety of applications.
Cleaning the dust collector
Finally, I'll tell you how to clean the dust bin. Press the button, and all the debris falls out through the bottom. Hair and fur can get stuck in the bin. In this case, you can completely remove the dust bin, remove the filtration system, and empty the bin completely. Very convenient.
Personal opinion
The Dreame V16s upright vacuum cleaner was thoroughly reviewed and tested. Like all Dreame products, it left a largely positive impression. Based on my experience with it and testing, I can highlight the following pros and cons.
I liked the following:
- High suction power.
- High-quality waste collection on any surface.
- The included mopping attachment allows you to vacuum and mop the floor at the same time.
- Illumination of the cleaning area.
- Stylish design.
- Ergonomic design.
- Removable battery.
- Very high quality assembly.
- The kit includes additional attachments for local cleaning.
- Good filtration system.
Speaking of disadvantages, I didn’t like the following:
- Short operating time in Turbo mode.
- There is no replacement roller for cleaning carpets.
- There is no automatic power increase function.
- Vertical parking is not provided.
- The information on the display is in Chinese.
Overall, the Dreame V16s has more pros than cons. Some of the criticisms are actually minor. I'm very impressed with its looks, the build quality is impressive, and, just as importantly, it can be used for both vacuuming and mopping. The main nozzle has no blind spots, does an excellent job of picking up debris, and illuminates the cleaning area with a soft green glow. So, ultimately, I have no compelling reason not to recommend it. It's definitely one of the best upright vacuums for the money. However, I'm not sure it's the best model out there. Yes, it's one of the best in the lineup. But the R20 and T30 are just as good in many ways. So, consider carefully whether you need the wet cleaning nozzle and that green backlight. If so, buy it.
On that note, I'd like to end this review. If you have any questions, please ask in the comments. Happy shopping. Bye!
