5 complaints about Dreame robot vacuums! What's wrong?!

Disadvantages of Dreame robot vacuum cleanersDisadvantages of Dreame robot vacuum cleaners

Hello to all readers of this project! In this review, I've decided to share my accumulated comments on the Dreame line of robot vacuum cleaners. Given my many years of experience testing robots and the fact that I reviewed almost all Dreame robot vacuum models, I'd like to highlight a few common issues that, for some reason, haven't been addressed yet. I hope this will help bring these issues to the brand's attention so they can be addressed in the future. So, let's get started!

For those who prefer to watch rather than read, there is also a visual video version of this publication:

Incorrect translation of cleaning modes

The first thing I'd like to highlight is the poor translation of the "dry and wet cleaning" mode. If you select this mode, the robot vacuum cleaner will announce that it's starting dry cleaning, and the app itself may even show the status as "Dry cleaning," although in reality, the robot will simultaneously vacuum and mop the floor, supplying water to the cleaning pads. This misleads many users, leading them to believe the robot is faulty and isn't cleaning the floor. However, the issue is simply a matter of translation, and in reality, the robot vacuum cleaner both vacuums and mops the floor. This situation is typical for most robots in the Dreamy line, as the app interface translation is the root cause. It's time to fix this!

Ideally, a full audit of the app interface and voice commands would be necessary, eliminating any inaccuracies. For example, when self-cleaning, Dreame robot vacuums say, "Start automatic EMPTY."

Rotating napkins when entering a station

The second issue negatively impacts the robot's ease of maintenance. This drawback is that when entering a station, Dreame robot vacuums with round rotating pads for some reason lower the pads and spin them around the ramp. As a result, the dirty pads stain the ramp, requiring more frequent removal and cleaning.

Perhaps the engineers implemented this method to pre-clean the wipes of large debris before washing them at the station, in order to improve the cleaning quality of the wipes, but it's an odd solution, and I haven't seen this problem with other brands. Perhaps only with Xiaomi's clones. It would be better if the robots entered the station with the wipes raised. What do you think? Let us know in the comments!

Only in black or only in white

Comment #3 – this one isn't about the software or hardware, but rather about the design. Many people, including myself, dislike the limited color options. More specifically, the lack of color selection on most Dreame robot vacuums.

Dreame Bot L30 Ultra and Dreame Bot L20 Ultra CompleteDreame Bot L30 Ultra and Dreame Bot L20 Ultra Complete

For example, you can only order white from the brand's official representatives and partners in Russia. Dreame X40 Ultra Complete, although it is produced in black for the European market. Popular Dreame L10s Pro Ultra Heat also sold only in white, and the 2023 flagship L30 - only in black.

White isn't the perfect interior design color for everyone, just like black isn't. So, when I was asked at the end of 2024 to recommend the best robot vacuum cleaner on the market, but one that came in black, I couldn't automatically recommend the top-ranked one. overall rating Dreame X40 Ultra Complete because the robot's color didn't suit the user. I had to recommend the robots below. TOP 10, which are inferior in functionality. So, it would be nice if every Dreame robot vacuum cleaner released could be ordered in at least two colors, as is the case with its main competitors, Roborock and Ecovacs.

The retractable side brush rises on carpets

The next comment concerns the new X40 series. Both the Chinese version of the X40 Pro and the global X40 Ultra Complete now feature a feature that raises the side brush when entering carpets. This is a strange decision, considering that robots already struggle to clean medium-pile carpets. And now they've disabled the side brush, which helps remove the pile.

The problem is that the engineers relied on cleaning carpets using only the center brush. If the carpet is centered in the room and all edges are easily accessible, raising the side brush won't have as negative an impact on carpet cleaning. However, if the carpet is close to a wall or furniture, the side brush won't sweep up accumulated debris in that area due to its lift function, and the center turbo brush simply won't reach it, as it's located centrally between the robot's wheels. Considering that all future premium models will likely feature a side brush lift function, it would be nice to at least have the ability to manually enable or disable this feature in the app as needed. Currently, activating the side brush lift function does more harm than good in cleaning performance.

Regional blocking

And finally, a final comment on Dreame robot vacuum cleaners, which should be addressed to several departments involved in the development of this issue: regional blocking of Chinese versions.

How to lock Dreame robot vacuum cleanersHow to lock Dreame robot vacuum cleaners

It's clear why they're actively pursuing this. But there are many nuances that need to be considered when bricking devices not intended for the Russian market. So, for starters, it would be a good idea to officially inform users which models are global and which are Chinese. And immediately explain the risks of using Chinese versions. Not everyone buys from the official website. There are plenty of marketplaces and sites with favorable purchasing conditions. These sites often sell a mixture of official and unofficial versions. It would also be a good idea to publish instructions on the official website, describing which models are legal to purchase and which will be blocked.

I published it on the channel A review of the Dreame robot line, but it's constantly updated, and it would be good for the company to periodically publish similar materials itself, especially since they're actively developing social media. Because the average buyer isn't capable of understanding this issue on their own. And given that competing brands like Xiaomi and Ecovacs offer the ability to use Chinese versions of their devices in the Russian Federation without any problems, many users may simply order a Chinese Dreame based on their own experience with previously used Chinese Xiaomi and Ecovacs robots. Overall, tightening the blocking itself, in my opinion, isn't the best idea if the brand plans to continue to earn user trust. But since they've already resorted to drastic measures, it would at least be right to warn potential buyers, and it wouldn't hurt to soften the measures for those who've been using Chinese Dreami robots for a long time without any problems.

So, these are the five issues I've encountered over several years of using Dreame robot vacuums. I hope company representatives will notice this video and address some of these issues in the near future. What other issues have you encountered with Dreame robot vacuums from your personal experience? Please share the model name and any issues in the comments that can likely be addressed through software or at least taken into account in the development of new products. Thank you all for your attention, and happy shopping!
